India A in South Africa

Wtf was that Innings ?

Good to see Rahane and Saha doing well anyway.

Nadeem isn't great but Arjun is going overboard with his hating on him here. He has good FC figures and though others could have been selected too ahead of him (Ladda ?), the Spin options aren't exactly overflowing at the moment . Most of them doing well in FC at the moment seem darters and in SA Nadeem can do well in a containing role.

Stuart Binny is/Was the useless selection here. Do they really see him as a national team prospect in Tests ? Really ?

Wonder whether his father excuses himself from selection meetings discussing his son ?

Good result for SA A, especially being 60/6. Although drawing the series will be a dissapointment to them.

I feel Rahane needs to develop as an opening batsman. He's often opened the innings or come in early after the dismissal of the opening wicketkeeper for Mumbai/West, and is surely technically a lot better than Vijay and Rohit Sharma, so both he and the team can benefit.

Call it 'hate', but on the previous page, I had linked the profile pages of Nadeem and Mumbai's least favoured spinner, Iqbal Abdulla. This bloke Abdulla has a better strike rate, comparable economy and just as much experience, but was dropped for a frivolous reason this season. Spin options are still better than Nadeem, but the 2012-13 Ranji season was poor for spinners, and he made the most of it. On the big stage, this bloke, with a career strike rate of 73, struggled to pick wickets, and his eight wickets in two games came at a princely average of 41. There's no way a specialist bowler with such a bloated strike rate is good enough to make the side. Iqbal Abdulla can also contain well, and picks up more wickets. Anyway, the top tier will have Mishra, Ojha, Ashwin and Jadeja, with at least one of them likely to be found out in the South Africa tour.

Paucity of all-rounders may be the factor, as also his form in the last two Ranji seasons, but his performance in the last season was poor. The only other options are Bucky, Ashish Reddy and Rishi Dhawan, of whom Bucky's a national regular, Dhawan plays for a Tier 3 team (and that bottom tier gets the rough end all the time) while Reddy is only one season old and his team was relegated from the top tier to the bottom.

Having had a look at Reddy in IPL, I don't think he is international material.

Reddy's only one season old, and the IPL does not give a fair chance to young or fringe Indian domestic players. He's done very well for Hyderabad, but they were so dire, they sank to the bottom tier in the previous season. Let's see how he performs over three seasons first.

Both Binny and Nadeem were in this squad almost by default.

That's what he always does though. He'll pick out something about a side selection that he doesn't like and make an excellent first post about why. But then if his team isn't doing well.. five times during the game and then again after the game, and before the next game, he'll make the exact same point over and over to blame the failure on even if it had absolutely nothing to do with it. Nadeem may or may not be rubbish but he's not the reason India A lost the last game and he's not disgraced himself; I mean he wasn't even the worst performed spinner in the side.

He will no doubt quote my post to let me know that Nadeem has a First Class strike rate of 73 and only stood out during the last Ranji season because other bowlers were injured or unavailable though. Just in case I hadn't read the exact same post 20 times already in this thread.

I feel India A tours after this one should be focussed on developing tearaway pacers and bowling all-rounders. Someone like a Rishi Dhawan or Shrikant Wagh or Parvez Rassool would be most appropriate in India A. Not Roger Binny Jr.

The top four/five looks strong- India may just settle with Ronnie, Dhawan, Kohli, Pujara and Rohit- Tiwary would be better than Rohit for Tests, and Rohit can play limited-overs games. They need to make the top five strong, so that an all-rounder can be fitted in- never mind if he's not as good as Kapil Dev or Botham.

Pandey has been quite impressive, but he needs an express pacer to partner him, to make the combo effective. He anyway is two years away from being a regular for India.

I really disagree about Rohit not playing tests tbh, he needs a run in the side given his FC record

Begs the question, why doesn't he just call them by their actual ****ing names so we don't have to have this discussion?

Well judging by the position of the sun in relation to the temperature of the Earth's surface, I'd say that you're a ****.
