*Official* Fourth Test at Chester-le-Street

In my humble opinion Bairstow is under-rated and should be retained.
I agree. I won't say he is very good (yet), but he really deserves a few more opportunities.

Anyway.....
Based on what do people think Root will make more runs at 6 than as an opener?

Everyone who's played an ODI as a specialist batsman since 1989 has played the late cut prodigiously ffs.

My opinion regarding Bairstow is similar to that of Finn, there's nothing wrong with picking guys like that but ultimately they have a narrow band of usefulness at present and you have to be prepared to let them go back to county cricket and do the hard work there. Not just throw them in and stick with them regardless.

Pleased to report Burgeinho's development at his Monday night coaching sessions is very good ind33d. After years of being told by his coach (me) to get his head over the ball, bend his knee and play with the full face of the bat, he emerged from his first session a month ago, whereupon I asked him what he learned.

"Get my head over the ball, bend my knee and play with the full face of the bat.....

Sometimes you need to be told by someone else, dad".

I mean, why get taught for free when you can pay for the privilege of being told the same shizz? FML.
Steve Waugh had the same problem with his kid. And if there's one father to listen to in regards to batting technique, surely its a bloke who averaged 50 in Test match cricket over 20 years.

Carberry. He got a couple of games when Strauss has time off. I think against the Bangers.

Oops beaten.
Got 1 game against Bangladesh, played reasonably well (got 2 starts) in conditions that didn't really suit him. Really should have been given more of a chance, and I'd love to see him play the next Ashes, reckon he'd be seriously good in Australian conditions.

What has Bairstow done to deserve being retained? 1 score of 95 against South Africa is not enough to maintain a Test career. He's looked all at sea against anything that moves, anything short, anything that's straight and spin, just doesn't look good enough for Test cricket currently, and it's time we move on.

Good to see the new ball still does something. England need to score enough to make sure they have a total that Australia can't chase until a 2nd ball is taken.

That has absolutely flown in off the seam. Might even be going down, that really jagged back.

Edit: Okay, it's definitely not going down. Umpires call though, another nice waste of DRS from Clarke!

that to me is out from the first second I saw it, ithought it was too close to say no to. But Aleem's decision was right I accept it, but it just looks terrible when you leave a ball that close and it's not out.
