Yeah, no.
**** post (surprise surprise).

It really is, the whole point is not letting him settle because if he does he can start dictating. KP would rather face pace when he starts off so he tries to force Clarke's hand. It's how orthodox off spin bowling should be played.

So basically you're mounting a scoreboard argument.
Is that a bad thing? It's like for example Sehwag scoring runs on a greentop, do you consider his technique more important in evaluating what success he might have or how many runs he may have scored in the past?

Well if Clarke has any wits about him he'll keep him on for some time, because Pietersen has already badly miscued two shots.

The idea that one five wicket haul discounts all technical analyses is the worst habit in cricket watching circles. It basically nullifies any need to watch the cricket.

This isn't even getting to your idea that Sehwag just scores runs "somehow" without there being a reason for it, which is absurd.

Right because he went after those guys down the pitch first ball. **** comparison.
Nah, he just slog swept them with immense regularity and even had the audacity to switch hit Murali. KP is an aggressive batsman who likes to dominate spin, particularly early on.

Similar when someone discounts the quality of someone's bowling because they didn't take 5. It's a benchmark for a reason but it's not the dichotomous arbiter of good/bad bowling people treat it as.

@rickeyrecricket: It's just occurred to me that Pietersen is the only batsman in England's top five whose surname is not a verb. Is that a record? #ashes

Awesome.

KP gets his way.

There was silence around the ground when Watson was announced as bowling, but in his head there was a standing O
