Sigh.Jimmy's average now under 30. I can't see it ever going back over it now.
AWTA.Batsmen should man the **** up, and bat, it's their job after all.
Yeah true, but it does mean the more important batsman doesn't have to start their innings twice. As for "who's more likely to see off the good bowling", I don't really know if you'd want your best batsmen facing the best bowling of the test. It seems a bit of a gamble.Generally it's just quite dull, and it gives batsmen more chances of being stranded at the end.
I said earlier, when England were time wasting to make sure they didn't have to bowl another over before lunch, that messing about around the time of a break in play is one of the stupidest things in the sport. I understand the logic of a nightwatchman, but in general I think there is far too much of an emphasis put on playing for the close, or playing for Lunch or Tea, especially by set batsman. The end of the day is often when you're set and the bowlers are tired, but so many players put emphasis on a more negative mindset because they think it's worse to get out before the close than a different stage of the match. It should be the time they're scoring the quickest, not slowest.AWTA.
The logic for nightwatchmen is backwards. Who is more likely to survive till stumps in that situation? Trott or Bresnan? You're actually playing into the bowling team's hands. Here's one of our lower order batsmen to have a crack at before stumps, just to make it easier for you to pick up a cheap wicket.
Lovers of attractive cricket the world over are hoping it doesn't happenA Cook & Trott day is long overdue. Would be good timing too, what with the footy starting
Yeah, gotta say Prior has been my biggest disappointment thus far from our camp. Definitely off his game.Rad Haddin having a good series with the cue, but neither keeper particularly excelling behind the stumps
Yeah in hindsight I reckon that's right but I wasn't in favour of playing him before the test either.Old Monty would of been perfect for this wicket, it was understandable not picking him but looking at it now it was a clear mistake.
Don't really see what was wrong with it? Was a demonic ball.Replay of Old Trafford 2005. Clarke has certainly come along way since that leave.
Plenty of spin for Lyon when he ddn't bowl too fast, which he only did a few times. He was making Cook look troubled when he bowled a tight line. But when the ball was wider Cook just cut it away predominantly with ease.Yeah in hindsight I reckon that's right but I wasn't in favour of playing him before the test either.
Not sure why Cook didn't give Root a crack yesterday though???
I guess the key for the Aussies as to whether they can force the win here or this fizzles out to a draw is all resting on Lyon. Didn't catch any of our 30 overs......was much happening for Lyon??
