Just saw the highlights of he last session. Terrific ball from Siddle to get Root, and I see Lyon's run of outstanding luck with chances behind the wicket has continued.

Jimmy's average now under 30. I can't see it ever going back over it now.
Sigh.

Reckon this is shaping up to be a draw, but well done to Australia for bouncing back so well. Great to see the umpire's are still reaching the standard that they've set for themselves over the first two tests.

Batsmen should man the **** up, and bat, it's their job after all.
AWTA.

The logic for nightwatchmen is backwards. Who is more likely to survive till stumps in that situation? Trott or Bresnan? You're actually playing into the bowling team's hands. Here's one of our lower order batsmen to have a crack at before stumps, just to make it easier for you to pick up a cheap wicket.

Generally it's just quite dull, and it gives batsmen more chances of being stranded at the end.
Yeah true, but it does mean the more important batsman doesn't have to start their innings twice. As for "who's more likely to see off the good bowling", I don't really know if you'd want your best batsmen facing the best bowling of the test. It seems a bit of a gamble.

I dunno. If it's a mistake it's only a little one. I don't find it dull though.

I said earlier, when England were time wasting to make sure they didn't have to bowl another over before lunch, that messing about around the time of a break in play is one of the stupidest things in the sport. I understand the logic of a nightwatchman, but in general I think there is far too much of an emphasis put on playing for the close, or playing for Lunch or Tea, especially by set batsman. The end of the day is often when you're set and the bowlers are tired, but so many players put emphasis on a more negative mindset because they think it's worse to get out before the close than a different stage of the match. It should be the time they're scoring the quickest, not slowest.

Haven't read the thread through so not sure if this has been said already, but the snicko came up for Bresnan's wicket straight away, he was still walking off. Surely it has to be close to implementation for DRS.

Ball to Root was a beaute, too. Siddle once again proving to be Australia's most important bowler, quelle surprise.

things im upset about; not getting to watch much
things im happy about; us scoring some ****ing runs, and the clarkeh at 4 h00d00 over

just really hope we have no chase/under 100 chase to win because i'm still ****scared of our batting consistency

Rad Haddin having a good series with the cue, but neither keeper particularly excelling behind the stumps

Can't believe first time we get a game (without number 11's making a match by default) I have seen a grand total of 2 hours in days when i've hardly missed a ball previously. Bugger.

Yeah, gotta say Prior has been my biggest disappointment thus far from our camp. Definitely off his game.

Haddin needed to lift from the first 2 tests and I think he has so far. I won't be surprised he comes out day 3 and drops one of the real wickets we need and who ever it is goes on to score big, but I'm happy so far this inning.

Old Monty would of been perfect for this wicket, it was understandable not picking him but looking at it now it was a clear mistake.

Yeah in hindsight I reckon that's right but I wasn't in favour of playing him before the test either.

Not sure why Cook didn't give Root a crack yesterday though???

I guess the key for the Aussies as to whether they can force the win here or this fizzles out to a draw is all resting on Lyon. Didn't catch any of our 30 overs......was much happening for Lyon??

Plenty of spin for Lyon when he ddn't bowl too fast, which he only did a few times. He was making Cook look troubled when he bowled a tight line. But when the ball was wider Cook just cut it away predominantly with ease.
