I so wish i could have seen this match. What a game. Lived up to the hype. Love Tests, love the Ashes.

Jimmy is so important for England. But he surely can't play all 10 tests?

Finn looked a liability, and Aus's tail seems stronger than their top 6.

These 10 games are going to be close. England need to lift their game - Cook and Trott need to do better, and Bairstow has to find his feet soon.

Aussie fight today was imperative for their chances in this series. If they had just rolled over and died off after those early blows, I have a hunch the series would've petered out in favour of England. Instead they managed to keep England's best bowler on the park for fifteen overs. With the short turnover between games, their own bowlers somewhat rested, I think they stand more than a decent chance of squaring things up at Lords.

It was a fantastic test, but the two widest discrepancies in quality were on display, namely between Swann and our spinners and our batting in general.
I had to re-read this a couple of times. I don't think Swann was anything special in this First Test, he toiled well and kept the run rate down which in the end was important but I think he would like to improve on this showing later during the series.

Finn is a bit of a dumbass bowler, much like Ishant Sharma. Tall, lanky with space to spare between the ears.
Finn is much stupider than Sharma. Sharma just bowls innocuously, Finn rightfully gets carted for his crap balls.
Yeah, no. I really don't think Finn is stupid at all. Always comes across as intelligent and well educated in interviews etc. It's amazing how many people confuse poor control of length with stupidity.

But they were though
No they weren't. The noise was exactly as the ball passed the bat, the spot on the bat is exactly where the ball went past. You are away of how dumb using a photograph of snicko is aren't you? All the person screenshotting the photo has to do is wait for a second and then screenshot. The snick stays on and ball looks miles past the bat.

I meant at CW, it's not a bad bunch here but I'd still hardly expect such an almost perverse level of good sportsmanship
Its almost pointless though. Whenever an Australian complains about the decision an Englishman will probably bring up the Agar decision and/or Trott.

The Trott thing still astounds me. Talk about confected outrage.

Even the mark off hotspot was ON before bat made contact with ball. Snicko isn't available for review anyway; I felt the umpire's call should've stayed. They reviewed the live action just twice and gave him out.
No it wasn't.

Try watching it with your eyes open.

For all his talk Swann was way to short early on in the test, and way to full today. Really struggled with his length.

Hmm I dunno about this. Swann looked pretty pedestrian for long stretches of this Test (and particularly today)
Yeah anyone who thinks Swann bowled exceedingly well this test is crazy or is setting the bar too low, and I'm generally a Swann defender on CW.

He was not very good today (way too full) and in general his length was off. Had a good spurt last night but that's not enough to say he bowled well.
