Match is really well poised here.

How much do you think is enough for England to defend in the 4th innings? I'm thinking it's game on with 250.

I'd be worried if we're chasing more than 200. Our batting and the pressure of a chase on a wearing pitch... Hmm

Another very tense and gripping session. Aussie attack sticking to their plans and generally bowling pretty dam well. Pattinson the stand out for me though, love his aggression and his skill for one so inexperienced. Losing Cook and Pietersen in the first hour and a quarter or so was certainly not in the plan, but Bell and Bairstow have battled really hard to repel the Aussies in very trying conditions. It's not going to be a fluent Bell innings today, it's going to have to be a lot of hard work punctuated by the odd glorious drive or punch, but his concentration has got to be faultless to get us into any kind of decent position from which we can plan a counter attack to win the game.

Tough to know how many we need to be really competitive, I suppose from this position we would settle for a lead of around 200 plus, anything below and I wouldn't fancy our chances, but this top order for the Aussies can be fragile, shame the very lower order isn't!

Another tense session coming up, England can't afford many mistakes at all which will hinder strokeplay for fear of dismissal as much as conditions will. Bairstow may be key in actually playing his normal game and rushing that lead up to around 200. Can still go either way this.

For those who are watching GEM, what are they showing in the lunch break? I'm watching a Sky stream and they're showing a Lara doco.

I wouldn't fancy Australia to make 250. 200-ish would make it even.

I don't really feel like they'll set a middling total though. The tail won't stand a chance against the current quality of bowling but if the next two partnerships can see it off, they might even take the game away from Australia later on. Sort of depends on the next hour or two. After a bit of three-stooges crap on the first two days it's been really high quality cricket this innings.

Loving the evenness of our attack right now. All keeping pressure on and sticking to the plan. Quality stuff.

Absolutely. They're bowling very disciplined lines, and the hint (a bit more at times) of reverse swing making things that bit more difficult. England must maintain concentration and be busy where they can. No rush at all, the longer we can take the game the more impact you'd expect Swanny to have, we obviously need to pick up the runs where we can but cannot afford to become frustrated. A Prior innings could be critical, though you'd imagine even his free-flowing strokeplay may be difficult today.

I'd say that I need Starc to pick his effort up, much improved this innings but he's only bowling about 4 good balls an over and its a big drop to the bad balls

Need these two to hang about until at least the new ball. The new ball scares me but it will scare me a lot more if the tail is in.

That being said the new ball is sooner than I thought. ****.

Totally agree with Holding about the man deep on the leg side. Usually when they go on one of their rants you think bringing the man up is probably just what the batsmen want, but here I reckon England will be loving having a free run to square leg.

honestly think Agar is being a little under-used, would love to have seen him settle into a long spell this morning or yesterday
