*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

If they actually go in with 5 bowlers (+Watson), with two of the frontline ones being Starc and Siddle who are both very unlikely to get injured during the match, it could almost rival every other dreadful decision that has been made in the Ashes in recent times. Yep, let's unnecessarily bulk out our bowling department and bolster our already fragile batting line-up by making Faulkner a main batsman. Good **** right there.

I would be very surprised if this whole 'Faulkner at 7' thing happens. I'm assuming a reporter asked Boof if he would do it and he nonchalantly said "it's a possibility".

With Watto/Rogers opening, does anybody else see the end of the road of Cowan? Unless he makes a big score in the next tour match I'm really not sure what they can do with him. Hughes should stay as a long term option at number 3 imo, and surely Khawaja is more versatile in the middle order.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Boof go with

Rogers
Watson
?
Clarke
Hughes
?
Haddin

So that could leave the 3 slot open for Cowan if he goes big this game, or to Khawaja, while 6 goes to Warner or Smith. If he plays Forkers Faulkner at 7 then we have some serious problems

Yeah, that would be my core. The two other slots should, IMO, go to two of Cowan, Smith and Warner. But I have a horrible feeling he'll go with Khawaja and Faulkner.

Cowan averages 32 in Test cricket, over almost 20 consecutive Tests

Now that he has been dethroned as opener, I would be stunned if somebody with a record like that gets retained

Smith should be rewarded for his good performances in India

Last spot goes to Warner over Usman

God help us if...."Apart from anointing Rogers, Lehmann said that he was considering a five-man bowling attack for Trent Bridge, which would likely have Brad Haddin and the uncapped James Faulkner batting at Nos. 6 and 7"

Surely Harris, Pattinson and Siddle play with Lyon and Watson. If they play six seamers I'll throw things. Ridiculous.

The team was going pretty well with a four man attack ffs. The wheels fell off when they went all funky in India. With Watson in the side bowling a few overs, Faulkner is not needed, surely?

I'm not sure why the feeling would be horrible if he selected Khawaja ahead of two of your trio.

- Khawaja scored 100 runs last first class match
- He is a specialist number 3 which is likely to be the position available
- Boof has been watching him closely over the past year
- Smith wasn't in the original party and of course Warner has had no time in the middle.

I'm wavering if Sidds and Starc are seen as certs and will be putting his photo on the dart board with Hilditch and Invers if the side looks anything like Berry's suggestion.

Surely Oz must stick with Harris, Pattinson and Siddle as their frontline seamers? Yeah, Cook got dismissed by Trent Boult a few times earlier this year, but that's primarily because Boult was New Zealand's best bowler, not because Cook turns into a rabbit whenever he faces a left armer. And even if Cook does have technical issues against left armers, would you seriously consider weakening the attack's overall effectiveness just to improve it against the opposition's best batsman?

If it does happen, I'm guessing the logic is that Harris is unproven coming back from injury, and Starc has played more games than Bird and is thus the incumbent...While I don't agree with it (would pick Pattinson, Harris and either Bird or Siddle) I suppose it's subjective, because Pattinson, Starc, Siddle is still quite an intimidating attack.

There's absolutely no justification for Faulkner playing over Lyon when Watson is guaranteed a spot though.
