This is Australia - it's possible...

But seriously, that was a good performance by Aus, get the combinations right, play them in familiar conditions and the Aussie boys aren't so bad after all!
Didn't beat much though as Somerset are awful this season.

Essex squad for tomorrow. Hamish Rutherford, Tom Westley, Jaik Mickleburgh, Owais Shah, Ravi Bopara, Ben Foakes, Mark Pettini, Sajid Mahmood, David Masters, Tom Craddock, Tymal Mills, Maurice Chambers

Ravi captain. Legend. Hoping for a double ton and 8 wickets and to then pip Jonny B to the test squad.

I think it's just a case of knowing what you'll get. Siddle's pretty reliable and England probably won't smash him around the park etc. I'd expect Bird will get a run in the next game though given how well Pattinson and Starc have done here and if Siddle had a bad game, there's an outside chance there. But realistically I'd say you could be 90% certain of the bowling lineup for the first test mostly because Bird is an unknown quantity.
Bird is also a safe bet in that he won't leak runs.Bird has excellent control.I would go for Siddle though only because he is the incumbent and he has bowled very good in recent times.Harris Patto Siddle would be choice , with Lyon as the spinner.

Shame Topley's not playing, would like to see him tearing through the Aussies. Saj will have to do the damage.

Anyway, I wonder if England would be tempted to give Jimmy a break for the Essex game. He's obviously a lock for the first test, and is clearly bowling well. Can definetly see reason to leave him out for one of Finn or Bresnan, as the third seamer spot is still uncertain, and it would be a good chance to a) see Bresnan in action for England in whites again to assess how he goes and b) try and find some form for Finn, who's clearly short of it at the moment.

Game's on Sky tomorrow aswell, looking forward to it. No Napier, Foster, Topley or RTD, but should be enough in that Essex squad to hopefully be competitive. Good opportunity for Bopara to remind England what he can do over four days, be good to see the reliable Masters against England too, is his lack of pace going to be a hindrance against the very best. Will also be good for the likes of Westley, Mickelburgh, Foakes and Mills to play against the national side and see how far they need to develop to reach that standard.

Masters is bound to knock Cook over imo. Rest of the Essex bowlers will go round the park. Saj and Tymal are quickish but inevitably will get smashed. Hope Craddock plays as he needs game time.

Yes reckon Napes would have given England a more serious test. Saj and Mills can both be expensive, might be a lot of work for Masters if Essex are to have any control from one end.

Masters will definetly be the most problematic of the bowlers. Pace really isn't England's achilles heel, so I'm expecting Mahmood and Mills to get smacked.

Ha, yes, fantastic toss, I somehow get the impression England were pretty keen to have first dig on what is being described as a pitch that is very flat and lacking in a bit of pace. Masters definitely going to be the main threat to England's preparation, hope we get a competitive game here, Essex have left out Maurice Chambers from their 12-man squad, so go in with Masters, Mahmood, Mills, leg-spinner Craddock and the all-rounder Bopara, with a few possible part-time overs from Westley.

I did said 'should' rather than 'will'. He's only 20 so has the chance to develop into something special. Him and Overton are the two I'm hopefully about.
