These two are looking really comfortable. I have a feeling they will get close only to break NZ hearts in the end.

The wild card in this situation is that Australia have no pressure at all. Normally in this situation the tailenders have a bit of fun and then start getting twitchy as they get closer.

Even crap bats know you have to slog when you need over 20 an over. They'd given up, accept it.
I accept your pearls of wisdom and now blame Voges for our defeat as all he needed to do was block for 20 overs and we would have walked it.

Instead, he had a slog

Anyone know why he would have done that at that stage of the match?

I don't know but it was definitely in an attempt to just win the game in 50 overs. Voges got out when Australia were already eliminated....

Edit: Although I guess Doherty and McKay are still trying to win it in 29.1 overs right now?

hmmm, could SL put the squeeze on here, a few maidens? Will the tail-enders hold their nerve, field needs to come in though.

Still a long on
Don't know why you're laughing. McKay and Doherty are the new Dhoni and Bevan.

Seriously though, Mathews is probably going by the logic that one of these two will get out to a good ball at some stage, so is trying to force them to take as long as possible to get the run. I don't agree with it FTR, just trying to gauge what the thinking is.

Does anyone think that they would only have ONE slip if this was a test match? And yet this might as well be a test match.

Whatevers happens form here on, this partnership has given Australia an unexpected asset of immense value: Doherty and McKay to be selected as specialist batsmen for The Ashes :D .
