***Official*** New Zealand in England series 2013

What's funny is that Kane Williamson has an almost identical strike rate to Trott and played a very similar innings today.
Yeah but it's not even remotely the same thing. If Trott was playing this innings setting a target it'd be fine, and if Kane was playing his innings while chasing 360 it'd be poor.

I'm sure England's plan isn't to replicate New Zealand's innings. It'd be ****ing stupid if so. It's a lot easier to maintain a higher rate for the first 40 than it is to score 130 off the last 10. It only worked out that way for New Zealand because England bowled absolute pies in that period; you can't plan your innings around that.

.....he was chasing whatever score England had just got and scoring at the same "too slow" rate that Trott did!
And that score wasn't 360.

Surely you can see that scoring at a SR of 80 is much more useful to the team when you're chasing 5RPO as opposed to 9?

I'm referring to Williamson's innings today, which you are using as an example of inconsistency. The situations are so so different it's not funny.

Morgan out, game over, if it wasn't already.

I'm talking about Kane scoring slowly in the chase and just barely going at the rate Trott had...same thing

Agreed

Cruising along whilst the required rate is inching up towards 10 and being a contributor towards his partners' downfall is not good

The part that I quoted was about today's game. Kane wasn't involved in a chase today.

England can't be using the New Zealand innings as a template. It'd be ridiculous.

With the exception of McCullum every batsman today has scored at about a run-a-ball today, from BOTH sides, yet y'all are acting as though Trott's 50(60) is a disaster! He's literally a couple of consecutive boundaries away from it being a good innings

The other thing which hurts Trott, he's an anchor whereby there are other members of the team who aren't exactly the type of players who need an anchor. Many of them are not consistently quick scorers as well. That's why he cops it compared to other individuals from other teams.

Because he knows he has to score at 9RPO ffs.

And here we have it.....

Trott is to blame for his teammates' dismissals despite NONE of them having scored at much more than a run or ball or having really showed any intent to score much faster than he has

If Bell had faced 50-60 balls and was still batting like this he'd have copped it too. Trott is in now. Raise the run rate ffs.

One day Buttler may show why he has been selected. Until then he is a weird selection as he isn't a great keeper and has done naff all ever with the bat.

You never watched a pro40 match on Sky? It is really not hard to tell why Buttler has been selected.
