time for Williamson I feel, see if anything happens out of the footmarks, Martin should be getting smashed right now.

Martin's been tripe. Had a more attacking batsman than Trott been in he would be getting ter-rounced.

And as I say that he bowls a beaute.

God, only a wrist spinner usually throws up the kind of trash Martin is bowling, so short and wide...

Second Test is in Leeds, yeah? Bracewell in for Martin, IMO.

And he bowls a jaffa as I say this, but he just doesn't offer that much more than Williamson IMO.

This is the Trott-out-stage of the innings for me, and I suspect many england fans, the point where we're safe enough that you wouldn't be devastated if the soulless accumulator would get out.

Would rather he stick it out for now, especially while Bell's fitness is in doubt. I'd be happy if he's 55* at the close.

I do wonder whether we've made a rod for our backs by having Compton open in India against their rather moderate opening attack and on those slow pitches in NZ. It would have been difficult for him not to have done respectably in those circumstances but he isn't convincing at all.
No one said batting in India would be easy before the tour, and really, Compton would only face a better new ball attack playing against South Africa than he would against New Zealand. Bairstow didn't do anything in the same circumstances, after all.

I realize that the helmet wasn't made to flatter anyone's looks, but Joe Root may possibly be the ugliest cricketer I've seen with a helmet on. And yes I have seen Rikki Clarke with a helmet on.

Yeah if we had to lose a wicket I'd rather it had been the other one ... still, a good, possibly match-turning partnership - and Trott is past 50 now.
