I'm intrigued to know if Richard still believes that Tim Murtagh qualifies as the following....

D-3: poor-quality British\Irish or European players who do nothing for the game who for some reason have got contracts with second or even third counties (brackets = loan signing).

Derby lost again, Surrey are about to ... the day's most interesting finish may come at Cardiff, where Essex need 275 in what I make 69 overs. Not making a fast start exactly, but there's plenty of time. Napier's contribution - and where he bats - could be crucial.

Looks like it'll be Derby and Surrey going down at this rate.

I wonder if Punter will be invited to lead the side for the rest of the season once he arrives.

Not sure if Essex are even going for this, very poor if they're not. By my reckoning they have 44 overs to make another 210, but they're only going at 2.6 an over ... setting a platform is all very well, but they need to start showing more intent.

Hmmm, just seen the Kent score, I would probably have gone to that if there hadn't been a Test on. Effectively 1 for 6, and it's only day two.

So not only are Kent getting hammered but with a scorecard like that they surely will be having a pitch inspection and could be docked points.

Quite possibly, although it's very rare for Canterbury to be penalised, and their batting has been poor for most of the season. I'd hoped that Key, relieved of the pressures of captaincy, might have a good season, but it hasn't really happened for him yet. 19 ahead with two wickets left, it looks pretty hopeless.

Can't understand why they've dropped Bell-Drummond really. Alan Richardson doing alright, would have been a better buy in the IPL then Kane......

Essex losing their way a little - Bopara and Napier out - still only a run a ball needed but this could go down to the wire.

Good ol' Dirtbag, manages to go at 7 an over, when Surrey are all over the batting side. Really needs to become a Championship specialist.

Pazza weaving his magic. 60-0 after 8 overs to 77/4 after 16.3 lol

Surrey with a massive tail as well, we might not be out of this yet

Batting first against Somerset on a flat deck must be horrible. You can't feel safe no matter what you get.
