Alec Stewart's all new World Test XI

Mediocre in the extreme.

BBC Sport - Alec Stewart's World Test XI

1. Alastair Cook
2. Cheteshwar Pujara
3. Hashim Amla
4. Kumar Sangakkara
5. Jacques Kallis
6. Michael Clarke
7. Matt Prior
8. Ravichandran Ashwin
9. Vernon Philander
10. Dale Steyn
11. Morne Morkel
Why do you think its mediocre? I don't think batting can be any better. On bowling side probably Ajmal over Aswin. As far as Jimmy over Morkel, his choice is understandable considering he is going for Morkel's bounce with swing&seam of other two.

Including Pujara as an opener in a World XI when he's only ever made runs at #3 in India is nonsense.

Yes we all rate him for big things eventually but there's plenty of batsman who've had a single excellent season in their home country. And some of them are actually openers.

He's not looked out of place at all the few times he's opened. I do get your point though

Smith should be one of the openers unless the matches are played in the subcontinent

Ajmal in, Prior can stay, I'd pick De Villiers or Pietersen for their match winning attacking / counterattacking ability under pressure around the world, instead of Kumar.
