He looked miles better than his figures in those 2 full series- (maybe if freakish things hadn't happened he would've averaged A LOT more). He all know about the possible dubious decisions he got in 1999 (avg'd just 46). Even in 2000/01 (avg'd 50) this happened-

2001- Sachin Tendulkar 65 vs Australia, 2000/01 - YouTube
(look at the way he gets out!!. He scored a fluent 76 in the first innings and then got out in this manner for 65 in the 2nd innings!!) The ball hit teh short-leg langer and then ponting took the rebound with a diving one hand full-stretch catch!

Althought Tendulkar played and looked far far better in these two series, figures will say his best series around that time was that 2003/04 in which he struggled like hell. (the double ton in the last test saved him)

Does Ikki have a low opinion of all non-Aussie cricketers? Just by reading his few posts in the different threads, I am pretty sure that he thinks

a) Lillee and McGrath are the two best fast bowlers of all time, in that order
b) Ponting is a better bat than Tendulkar
c) Miller is the greatest all-rounder ever

His sig makes his view on Warne pretty clear, of course.

To be fair to Ikki we all hype up players of our own nations and calling Ponting better than Tendulkar isn't a shocking call considering all the times Ponting performed in the BIG matches. Have an issue with the other statements though.

cm, friendly advice.. Sachin is NOT the first person to be dismissed due to great fielding and/or unlucky circumstances and play with injuries against McGrath/Warne.. I totally agree on all your points. Those were all facts.. But there are also facts like other players who have faced exact same difficulties and still managed to do better.. Kallis batted on one friggin leg to save a match and scored a 100 against us very very recently on a track where Bhajji was looking like the 2001 Bhajji. It really starts getting a bit silly when you get down to innings by innings break up. If you really want to talk about Sachin doing well against Aussie attacks, all you have to do is bring up his twin tons in 92 over there.. When the rest of the batting line up was crumbling in Perth, an 18 year old boy stood up and showed Indians can bat, even at the WACA.

What are those big matches?

Problem is of course that Ikki presents all his opinions as facts.

Yeah I get it, but the fact is Tendulkar and McGrath didn't face off enough at all, so every innings MAKES a DIFFERENCE here, especially the ones in which he looked like in godish form and well set to score BIG. Ikki only relies on figures, so we would tell you that tendulkar played better in 2003/04 series (no Mc/warne) than in the 1999 and 2001 series! (which is total bull if you actually watched the 3 series)

To be honest, I think 2001 was the best Sachin has batted ever against Australia.. Given the strength of the bowling and the form of that line up. His knock in Chennai was good but his twin knocks in Mumbai were as good as any he has played against Australia. And honestly, there is a reason he averages less against McGrath. McGrath is a friggin great bowler for a number of reasons and one of those reasons is that he always tames the best batsmen in the opposition, either by keeping them quiet and contributing to them getting out to others or by dismissing them himself.

If you actually replaced one of his low scores with a big 100, his avg would be around 50 against McGrath! Thats how small the sample size is!

I guess so. But if tendulkar hadn't got out in that freakish fashion, who know, he may have won the match for india given the sort of form he was in (or at least india wouldn't have got a hiding ). The rest of the line-up collapsed after the dismissal! and india ended up losing by 9/10 wickets

YET when we mention to him about tendulkar's dominance over warne, he deflects it by bringing up McGrath hahahhaha

Nah.. the one thing people miss about McGrath is that he is exactly the type of bowler a Sachin or a Lara at their dominating best would hate to face.. And get out to most of the time. He doesn't let people get away and for Sachin in that 98 form, that would have meant getting himself out through a needless shot. There is a reason why he was so good against McGrath in 2001 when he was obviously moving far away from his 98 self.

good point but maybe the other bowlers wouldve had trouble keeping the pressure on from the other end? (there was no lee, gillespie at the time)

World Cup Final where Tendulkar bottled it for one, ashes match at Old Trafford 2005 and the amount of times the git scored a ton in the opening test of a series for a start off the top of my head.
Ponting was a champ in this regard (in the middle half of his career- peak yrs)

by the way do you realize that cricket is a game where luck is a huge factor? I once wrote quite a lot about it. One day you may play and miss 15 times and get a 100 and on another day you may be batting on 50 and your first mistake results in your dismissal. Hence saying that he bottled it in the finals is wrong.

he actually looked like he might produce a absolute gem in 2011 wc final, considering the way he started off..hit a few breath-taking drives and then malinga got him to knick one hahaha

You know, I sometimes wonder if Tendulkar had had an obvious drawback like Lara (and arguably Hammond) did against quality fast bowling (the margins at that level are minimal, but still), how much flak would he have received from the same people who currently extol Lara over him so much. Maybe I am just being silly.

I mean blackcaps would've won yesterday, if the ball that hit prior on the hemet and then hit the stumps had actually dislodged the bails or if Bell hadn't been dropped, or if Prior hadn't been so lucky in the middle session or if instead of one of the so many play and misses, there had been an edge !! (even in the last over, monty came agonizing close to edging a delivery) .

I hope ppl get what I am saying?

I meant the final against Australia where he was out in the first over after Ponting hit the best ton ever in a final not the last world cup.
