Lyon a chance now, IMHO.

Even if his form hasn't been great, he's been dumped for Xavier D'oherty. That's the Xavier D'oherty, all two first class wickets for the season at 80-odd each of him.

It's like your missus giving you the arse and then taking up with Shane MacGowan; one couldn't help but feel a wee bit slighted no matter how big an arsehole you may've been.

Aussie selectors and Indian selectors trying to outdoe each other in terms of ****ty selections imo... Harbhajan for Ojha was bad enough but Doherty for Lyon? What a bunch of dunderheads

I hope Doherty takes 2-3 wickets despite bowling poorly ala Harbhajan and keeps Lyon out for the remainder of the series

hmmm he's in bad enough form to warrant the dropping (av. of 45 in last 7 tests, inc. two day 5 failures, av. of 71 in his last 5 shield games and perhaps more troubling, an wrist-spinner-esque eco rate of 3.8) though. and then doherty out performed lyon in the tour match. there's also a hint of protecting lyon in the dropping for mine. who cares if doherty goes for 3/200, but if lyon...? and in his current form, it wouldn't be that surprising. if they fly over jason krejza and pick him in the 3rd, it belongs here, but right now, it's just dropping an out of form spinner, not sacking him.

Didnt know Deanos stats were that good when he was ejected. Trying to remember that far back, it was to get Punter in the team wasnt it?

Nope, he was dropped for Damien Martyn, who played 3 Tests vs WI before being injured and replaced by Justin Langer. So two good debuts.

In reality though, he was dropped instead of Mark Waugh, who had scored 144 runs @ 12.00 in his last 7 Tests before Jones was dropped (Jones had scored 586 runs @ 53.27 in his last 7)

Edit: Just realised it was worse, Waugh had just scored 4 ducks in a row in the last 2 tests vs SL, while Jones had scored 77, 100*, 11 & 21.

Jones was dropped because he didn't like it up him, and they were playing the West Indies. So many of his big scores were made in dead rubbers against the decent sides (SL weren't then, least be honest).
