Whatever it takes!!!
Probably, and he's not the full package not by any stretch, but he's got so much talent it's disgusting.
If it came down to him and Twatto, would you pick him? Genuine question, btw..

Its good he is doing so well and apart from all the obvious reasons, it will also be nice to have one more right hander in the Aussie middle order. Might just help Carke realize that as one of the best batsmen in the world, he is wasting himself and his form at 5. 4 seems a much better position for him to bat at and control the game from.

Does seem like Doherty for Starc will be the selectors reaction to this game. Unless they get carried away and pick Maxwell to add to the batting and be the 2 nd spinner. Hope Moz can ton up and we can take a few before its over.

I'm still holding out hope of a miracle, but at the very least we've got the chance to gain some badly-needed momentum to take into the next Test.

If we can extend the lead a bit and then really rattle the Indian batsmen before they knock off the runs that will be some minor consolation.

Am I missing something? Surely the most vulnerable batsman is Watson, particularly as he's now given up his better suit?

Most vulnerable batsman to be dropped? Has to be Hughes based on his 4 innings in India. Watson hit a 50 first innings and in 1, iirc, of the tour games. Need to stick with Hughes for now IMO.

I'd be getting Haddin on a plane if it was my call.

The point about Ashwin and RH bats makes you wonder how the brilliant George Bailey would have performed. Realistically though it would have been Henriques omitted so not the worst decision but I just think Bailey has the temperament for these conditions.

Hughes is as likely as anyone (bar Clarke) to score big next Test too. Random dismissals though.

Yep. He should be under the most pressure if he's not bowling.
If you actually follow the trend of form, other than Clarke Watson is our safest bat. Ed Cowan is the one who is most vulnerable.

Watson's trouble against spin is massively overstated.

Yeah but he's a massive **** tbh. Looks like he's going to cry all the time. It's an English facial expression and has no place in an Auatralian sporting team.

I thought Cowan looked better than Warner in both innings personally. Warner's footwork was despicable in the first dig; looked like he was about to get out every ball for the entirety of it. Obviously Warner shouldn't be dropped but it puts things into context a bit.

Anyway, why are we talking about a dropping a batsman? The reserve batsmen in the squad are Khawaja and Smith, plus Maxwell if you count him as a batsman. The blokes in the side already definitely fill me with more confidence. If you're desperate to bat Clarke at four for some inane reason then just bat him at four and put one of the existing team at five; I'd have a lot more faith in that than the Khawaja/Smith alternative.

Khawaja to bat at 4, Watson to open and Doherty to replace Starc would be my changes. So we would have something which looks like.
1.Watson
2. Warner
3.Hughes
4.Khawaja
5.Clarke
6.Henriques
7.Wade
8.Siddle
9.Pattinson
10.Lyon
11.Doherty

Ofcourse I"m a fan of Clarke batting at number 4 but we all know that won"t happen.

Why is c Guptill b Martin back in the squad anyway? The only player I have seen getting out caught behind and in slips more often is Upul Tharanga
Because 1. we lost Ponting and Hussey and 2. he's fixed that up anyway.

His main problem is against spin afaic.

If they are going to open with 2 spinners Clarkeh should open based on how the others play spin.

Well Moises has applied himself better than I'm sure most of us expected, and certainly better than what we can imagine Khawaja or Smith would've done. It is hard to drop him for the next test.

It does pose all sorts of issues for the next test though. Do we need 3 specialist quicks? Is it worth picking our second best spinner when our best went for 3/200?

That side would look infinitely better if you swap Khawaja and Clarke at 4 and 5. And I would possibly have Cowan ahead of Hughes at 3.
