We didn't even see what happened, probably not done forcefully or with malice. Players barge into each other when running between wickets (often intentionally), have heated exchanges, dissent shown at the umpire. A light push seems small compared to all that. Just making a mountain out of a molehill here. Hoping to see Quinny in the side for all the ODIs.

There is no way they can have AB keep wickets in the ODIs if his back is that bad. Bring in Dane Vilas for de Kock as a straight swap if he's banned; don't put the stress back on ABdV.

So what's the NZ ODI team going to look like?
Something like this? ......

MJ Guptill
BJ Watling
BB McCullum
KS Williamson
GD Elliott/JEC Franklin
C Munro
JDS Neesham
NL McCullum
KD Mills
N Wagner/MJ McClenaghan
TA Boult

Yeah would be about that, I'd go Franko over Elliott and Mitch over Wagner. And I bet you Nathan McCullum will bat in front of Neesham, because he is Nathan McCullum..

Shame about Anderson and Milne being injured, would have got a game or 2.

If Watling is going to keep in tests he may as well keep in ODIs too so that he has all the match practice he can get.

The good thing about this is that if either one of McCullum and Watling score big batting first than the other can take the gloves.

Whose idea was it to let Wagner play white ball cricket?

He's awful at limited overs.

I'd put Watling lower down and have McCullum open with Williamson at 3 then Watling 4 out of neccessity. We've got three number sixes in that team.

I'm kind of keen to see Watling have a go opening in the ODIs, even though they're ODIs.

As much as everyone loves to hate him, Nicol hasn't been the worst ODI batsmen for us in recent times, and adds a spin bowling option. Also, we have a real shortage of specialist bats in this ODI team, so we actually kind of need him.

I'd choose:
1. R Nicol
2. M Guptill
3. B McCullum
4. G Elliott
5. K Williamson
6. BJ Watling
7. J Neesham
8. N McCullum
9. K Mills
10. N Wagner/R Hira
11. M McClenaghan

Williamson's record in the top 4 isn't great while Elliott has a century at 4. Imagine that Williamson will end up batting 4 though, with Watling 5 and Elliott 6.

Depending on how Elliott goes with the bat, could look at dropping one of the bowlers (Wagner/Hira probs) with Munro to slot in the middle order and Elliott moving down. Wouldn't give him his ODI in the 1st match, though.

Nah, I don't buy this.

The bowlers can bowl anywhere but long hops down the leg side to him because he only has one shot.

Generally gets to about 10 (40), despite the fact that he's been trying to slog every ball, then gets a few healthy edges away before skying one.

Just puts too much pressure on the batsmen at the other end.

Also, I think Williamson should be in the top 3 because he doesn't have the ability that most of the other batsmen do to hit sixes at the end.

For me, I'd go with:

Guptill
Ryder
Williamson
Taylor
Watling
McCullum (w, c)
Neesham/Elliot
N McCullum
K Mills
Boult
McCleneghan

Yeah Nicol's been pretty poor but I'm somewhat reluctant to replace him unless someone actually deserves that spot. We should call this 'the Franklin/Munro conundrum'.

tbf to Nicol he's done more for us in ODIs/T20s than Franklin has in tests since becoming a batsman

For this series, we literally don't have enough specialist or experienced batsmen in the squad for him to be left out, imo. If we're talking about the prospects of our ODI team past this series, yeah there are better options.

I'm struggling to separate out ODIs and T20s in my memory so you may be right about Franklin in ODIs. All I remember is he was moderately good at the T20 WC.

The bowling flipside to the batting stats I linked to.

Didn't realise our bowlers were so **** outside of Southee, Mills, Oram and Bennett (what a gun, btw).

The perception of NcCullum always being good for 1 wicket and keeping it tight getting less and less true as time goes on. T20 gun, yeah, but ODI...

Edit: even Williamson competes with Franklin, bowling-wise..
