He's been having an absolutely awful summer in all formats. Can't buy a run; wouldn't be that surprised if Queensland dropped him soon. Given he essentially got into the mix based on one summer it's only fair that one summer can send him shooting well out contention as well.
This series is building beautifully.
Starc as I suspected, is loose but can swing the old ball a mile in the right conditions, will certainly be a handful in English conditions.
Siddle is just about the pick of the quicks this year, he's taken 40 odd at 23, from a fairly low amount of games. He's much improved from the last time he played in the ashes.
Pattinson will be back and he's probably Australia's premier strike bowler.
Lyon is a worry, but he's generally tight and can have his moments.
The battle of the two attacks is going to be fascinating.

Difficult to know where Australia are at right now as they keep having bowlers break down in the middle of games. It possibly cost them against SA and while the batting has weaknesses the main worry could be the bowlers fitness. Some serious issues there with so many getting injured all the time, might be a bad run of luck but a couple of them seem to be injured far more than they are ever fit.
At least they know that if they can get them fit they won't need to pick Johnson again apart from Perth in December.

A lot people wanted Starc in the side ahead of hilfenhaus anyway.
Starc and Siddle are durable.
Pattinson has a side strain, nothing to do with foot/back.
According to ABC radio, Cummins is fit, he's being held back ATM, not sure how that relates to the Ashes though, in cotton wool I suspect.
England don't want Pat Cummins on that plane IMO.
Jury's still out on Cowan, Hughes looks much improved, but will be interesting to see how he handles Ashes pressure in England. Warner is a class act, despite the haters, he's a dangerous prospect for the English bowlers.

Agree on the whole. Although he did shows sings of improvement in that regard with his knocks against SL in Centurion and in Wellington. His performances with the bat while wicketkeeping have lowered his rep a bit though, hope SA get a specialist wicketkeeper in as soon as possible.
How will the Aussie selection policy survive an Ashes trip? How many 'spare' fast bowlers are they intending to take? It's one thing to do it at home, but a 'normal' sized squad would be 16-17 with 1 spare bat, 1 spare keeper, 1 spare spinner and 2-3 spare fast bowlers. England have developed a policy of running parallel Lions tours (sometime in the same place, sometimes not) to provide extra options - do the Aussies do this? The traditional option of having a couple of players in county cricket doesn't seem available - counties aren't going to want to take on fast bowlers who have to be rested every couple of weeks.

England took 18 to India (note:they knew Ian Bell was missing one test when picking the squad and squad numbers) and we should look at doing something similar. That would allow

I think it was originally 16 then KP was reintegrated and Meaker called up as injury cover wasn't it?

Yup, pretty much. Finn broke himself in a warm up so Meaker was called up to cover him and he stayed when Broad injured himself.
Would guess, from the way he trekked around like a spare part, Morgan wouldn't have been included had KP not been on the outers when the sqaud was initially named.
Oz will take no more than 16, IMHO and rely on yer Katichs, Klingers and Rogerses for cover as they'll be here anyway.
