Sachin Tendulkar Retires From ODI Cricket

I presume, though, that him retiring from this means he has no plans on packing in Tests anytime soon, which is interesting.
That is the tricky part in all of this, I wonder if that is the case though - that he plans on sticking around in tests for a while. I presume with the Pakistan series coming he had to make a decision now whether he was going to play that series and the England one. And if he wasn't going to play the Pakistan series, then really, he's not playing any ODIs.

The Australia test series is late Feb early March, so pretty much 2 months away. I reckon he will retire then. Probably announce it just before the series, so the country can have 4 tests to farewell him. Just my inkling.

An era ends. A truly magnificent ODI career laden with all sorts of records comes to a close. Sure, retiring after the 2011 WC would have been the ideal swansong but who could forgive him for wanting to play on.

So many highlights which have been mentioned by many others before me, but for me those three classic straight drives off Lee in the CB series remain permanently etched into my memory.

Hope he can renew his focus for one final assault at Australia at home.

Remember you giving me a lesson on how the title 'Sir' becomes part of the name in cultures that I did not understand. Time for you to understand other cultures rather than craping in every other thread for something that doesn't affect the topic at hand.

Interestingly enough actually (and I didn't know this until a year ago), in India the use of the first name is pretty common, for what reason I'm not entirely sure, but that's why people don't care too much about whether it's first or last name.

As far as Sachin in particular is concerned, the reason why people call him by his first name is because everyone in India feel like they know him personally, that's the kind of personna he's built in India, It doesn't happen with other players, but it's different in Sachin's case simply because of the kind of affect he's had on the nation.

True, true.

Tell me, is it a cultural thing to retire separately from various formats even though youve carried on too long so as to maximise the plaudits, or is it just something the Munchkin has done as an individual?

You know the end is near with these great players when they start doing weird things to their hair. Remember Warne and McGrath both went for longer hair in their last couple of years, and Ponting went for the plugs. I thought I detected longer hair on Sachin this past test series.

It's a sign. Small sample size I grant you, but still.

That would be enough, thanks.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone that we restrict retirement threads for tributes. If you'd like to bash Tendulkar to get a few thrills, there's a thread for that. Please take it there.

8ankitj and Burgey - last warning. Any more insults and you're getting an infraction. You may still get an infraction for posts that you made previously in this thread.

Alright we can see his magic in Test matches. May be he will end his Test career in a bright spot. Not like the ODI's.

McGrath dyed his hair as well didn't he? Had some blonde tips or something weird like that.
