This is such bull****:

If we just look at the last day, I am unbelievably proud of the performance the boys put in.
It was an entertaining Test match and a lot happened. Lots of runs scored, bowlers took five-wicket hauls and it went down to the last hour. If you look at all of that, one feels that it was a good pitch. But looking at the way the ball behaved on day five, you have to say that it was a lot more in favour of the bowlers than it was for the batters and perhaps a little bit unfairly so.

a) it was never a minefield. Sure, the ball stayed low outside off stump a couple of times, but that's not unexpected on a 5 day wicket.

b) Score your runs in the first innings like Aus did and it's not unfair.

As a coach you can't really ask for much more from your troops the way the boys battled out there.

Well, I suppose it was, from the point of view that the pitch was so abrasive that it tore chunks out of the surface of the ball, allowing early (and significant) reverse swing.

So a 5th day pitch gave bowlers an advantage? Big deal. Batters get 5 days of DRS to help them.

It is somewhat ironic to hear the management of a cricket team from the subcontinent complain about wickets deteriorating on the last day.

Actually thought the wicket was one of the better Hobart pitches. Certainly more interesting than the bore draws we used to get there, though not as lively as last year's which even truned NZ into a competitive side.

It was just a good Test match imo. Some really hard, attritional cricket played over the five days. SL put a high price on their wickets for the most part, and Australia had to bowl really well int he last session to get them out.

Some good batting, some good bowling, and all three results were possible at the beginning of the 4th innings.

Angelo Mathews threw his wicket away and I think that was the turning point on day 5.

i don't understand this theory that batsmen are more helped by drs. Being not out, when you shouldn't be out, is not an unfair advantage.

So initially people said UDRS helps spinners because benefit of the doubt no longer goes to batsman esp. long stride etc. now people say UDRS helps batsmen because it's preventing umpires from giving wrong decisions. So where do people sit regarding UDRS at the end?

One of the commentators said that it helps batsmen who are looking to survive, which I agree with.

Batsmen are more aware of protecting the straight balls from getting out LBW, when they are looking to defend. So they get their pads outside the line and make sure the bat is in-line, therefore the ball impacts in-line and it hits the bat, or it hits the pad and its outside the line.

Watching live this is not noticeable and umpires give them out, but with DRS it is very hard to get an out decision if the batsmen use this tactic.
