Best & Worst Declarations

Not really.

Instead of being bowled out for 278 in their second innings the Aussies may have instead declared at 150-200 in order to give themselves enough time during Day 4-5 to bowl the Sri Lankans out a second time.
You mean allowing the Sri Lankans less time in the field leading up to the final innings? Well...

Could've been different, would have been different etc. Sure. But they won, so it's a closed case on the merit on the declaration. Surely.

Lets face it, there is only one non Sri Lankan who thinks Clarke did the wrong thing. The Sri Lankan fans might think the game may have gone differently and might have been saved if they batted on till 600 etc...

He'll never change his mind, Clarke made his 2nd brave call in a few months and has got both right. Have to give him huge credit for that as it takes bollocks to do it as if it goes wrong you get slaughtered for it.

There was less than an hour left of play. Anyone thinking he declared at the wrong time is quite frankly an idiot.

Whether or not it was right or wrong, I agree with what someone else said earlier in this thread that Clarke's captaincy has been enjoyable. He's made a number of calls that I can't really see any other current international captains making, and they often pay off. I certainly didn't expect him to be such a positive captain but I'm loving it.

In that sense he has taken over the team at the right time. Lack of established stars means he can pretty well so what he likes without risking big reputations or egos.

They had to score another 270odd in the 2nd innings - slowly.

It's an entertaining mix of people who are trolling and people who are genuinely this magnificently dumb. It seems as though Ricky Ponting has a lot of free time and is posting in this thread under multis (and no not Benchmark).

Could end up like Border if he makes the team become a top side again.

Is that because Ponting also captained a winning side by making perfectly timed declarations?

Ponting was always fairly decent at declaring at the right time. Some of his declarations in the 09/10 summer were excellent.

Perhaps it's time you acknowledged there's more than one way to skin a cat. With the sort of bright and cheery optimism that you bring to this site, you're quite possibly a taxidermist anyway and I'm only telling you things you already know.

Love it how you continue to insult people by calling them dumb when you are clearly wrong.

Go read what I've said throughout about how you can't call a declaration as good or bad based on the result. So why the **** would I change my tune now - the start of Australia's 2nd innings showed they wasted 10-15 overs anyway and would have happened virtually every time. What happens after that is academic because it's not connected with the declaration - Sangakkara nor anyone else got dismissed because they got blinded by the sheer stupidity of Clarke's declaration. Australia had about 130 overs to bowl Sri Lanka out instead of 140. What happens then is irrelevant to the argument, unless someone wants to say that having fewer overs to bowl Sri Lanka out was an advantage.

You're not going to get it whatever I say anyway, but that makes two of us - as you're on ignore with a load of other time wasters who end up getting banned. Bye bye.
