James: "How was Merv Hughes (and Boon, Taylor, Warne, Ritchie etc) able to play Test cricket without breaking down all the time? Get rid of the biomechanical types and bring back the cold beers."
Wonder if anyone will have the heart to tell him how many Tests Merv missed due to injury.

It's a shame Sri Lanka have batted so negatively, Aussies sweating on the prospect of defeat if they don't bowl Sri Lanka out would have added to the fun.

This may have been Sri Lanka's best chance of a win all series if the pitches don't offer much for slower seamers (which is usually the case in Oz).

And Bruce Reid.

Meanwhile Steve Waugh was bowling first change.
Craig McDermott had a regular arse groove on the ortho's table too. Brendon Julian, Paul Reiffel, etc. All had their times away from the game. Even the least injury-prone quick ever, McG, twice in his Test career missed a whole goddamn season with side muscle tears. Soft.

272 in 74 overs not a ginormous ask if someone can stay with Sanga, IMO.

Good time for Sanga to come back into form.

And in regards to the viewers verdict, he is most definitely SL's best test bat ever. WAG

They'd have to up the aggression reasonably soon, and it's a big ask so far out from safety. If they had someone who's naturally aggressive then that target would be much more achievable given Sri Lanka haven't really shown any intent and are unlikely to do so now.

If they'd have gone at 3 an over they'd only need 3 an over of course.

The one thing that could work is if/when Mathews bats Sri Lanka tell him he's batting for a draw, then he'll probably decide to have a thrash at everything and score a quickfire 50/100.

Worth considering is Sangakkara is batting well within himself ATM. If he fires up after lunch the run-rate won't be the biggest concern.

Then there's the new ball.

BUPA ads giving me the ****s.

What would I do if I found a healthier version of myself?

Get the n00dz off his phone, obviously.

Still a big ask.

I suppose you've got two approaches, you can bat positively and try for a steady 3.5 an over knowing you'll get some spikes when Starc bowls and cover things that way. Or you can try and just bat normally, getting it down to 6-8 an over off 15-20 and have a dart.

Let's get real here. SL aren't winning, SL aren't attempting to win.

So vital they aren't 4 down by lunch. Will make it bloody tough if they are.

I predict a close finish here, could be an awesome last 2 sessions. Love test cricket like this.
