That's a shame about the bowling. I've always been impressed when I've seen him batting in domestic one dayers or the HRV Cup. I didn't see his innings against SA, but it sounded as if he went reasonably well before he was run out. I would have liked to see him at the T20 WC.

Mills in Andrew/Southee mould! It's a quite incredible pattern this round of games; all three have seen a lower order batsman bat superbly then open the bowling with instant results. Confidence?

The trend continues with Wagner and Craig cashing in against CD. Canterbury currently 85/7, so on target to post 300+.

Hmm, 7 of those knocks against CD..just one apiece against Wellington and Auckland, but boy were they biggies.

Chris Martin didn't bowl second innings for Auckland - wonder if he's injured.

Can't believe Mills 10 wickets for the match. Bruce Martin also with 7 - I guess that's good in case he's needed in SA. Looks like a large dose of Lolcanterbury though.

People keep talking about how improved the bowling is at the moment, but the stats don't really bear that up. Currently, of the top 10 wicket takers, only 3 have averages under 30 (Butler, Arnel and Nethula). The quality young quicks (Milne and Wheeler in particular) have done better, but obviously have only played a couple of games due to injury.

Play against spin might improve now Merlyn has arrived. I remember it was used by the England team for the 2005 Ashes.

The ‘Merlyn’ as it is called, was recently purchased by NZC and gives players the opportunity to face all types of spin bowling all year round.
It has the ability to replicate side spin, top spin, back spin, speed and flight. A number of international players have vouched for the Merlyn and believe it has substantially improved their play of spin bowling.

The Merlyn will be used by players of all levels at NZC and will be based in Lincoln.
