That's a shame about the bowling. I've always been impressed when I've seen him batting in domestic one dayers or the HRV Cup. I didn't see his innings against SA, but it sounded as if he went reasonably well before he was run out. I would have liked to see him at the T20 WC.First of all, I can't speak highly enough of the bloke. He's a great character who regularly loses money on the golf course. As a cricketer, I think he's as talented as most going around in international cricket. But application and maybe cricket smarts let him down. The ability to work on his game, put it into practice and bat for long periods hasn't come to him yet. It's something I've always seen in Colin Munro and has been proven lately. His bowling could have also been something v decent but he's had tendonitis issues and lost pace. Unfortunately I think he'll be overrun by the likes of Neesham/Munro/Anderson/the next clean striking all rounder.
OK my updated version, again not including Astle as he used to be a batsman (and kinda is again) and Neesham as he should be a genuine all-rounder:Kuggeleijn 142* vs CD
Bruce Martin 114 vs ND
Tarun Nethula 108 vs Otago
Adam Milne 97 vs Otago
Southee currently 85* vs Wellington
Mark Gillespie 77 vs Canterbury
Guys like Andrew and Astle have had success with the bat this season as well.
Agreed on both points. Tugaga looks great. Unplayable delivery.Wow. Jesse. I think that may be the worst shot I have ever seen.
And Tugaga's wicket was a ripper.
Kuggle's action is looking more and more bond-likeTim Southee, 156 and 4/16 vs. Wellington, Day 1 - YouTube

Plus:OK my updated version, again not including Astle as he used to be a batsman (and kinda is again) and Neesham as he should be a genuine all-rounder:

Matthew Bates 59 vs CD
Ish Sodhi 48 vs Otago (FC debut knock)
Ish Sodhi 50 vs CD
Gareth Andrew 180* vs Auckland (maiden FC 100)
Ben McCord 47 vs Otago
In the context of so many under-performing specialist batsmen, many of whom have yet to pass 50, that's pretty spectacular.
There's something Simon Jones-like about Tugaga's action; slightly round arm, swing. That's what immediately comes to my mind anyway.Tim Southee, 156 and 4/16 vs. Wellington, Day 1 - YouTube

New Zealand Cricket - NZC purchase Merlyn bowling machineThe ‘Merlyn’ as it is called, was recently purchased by NZC and gives players the opportunity to face all types of spin bowling all year round.
It has the ability to replicate side spin, top spin, back spin, speed and flight. A number of international players have vouched for the Merlyn and believe it has substantially improved their play of spin bowling.
The Merlyn will be used by players of all levels at NZC and will be based in Lincoln.
Why the **** have we not looked into buying one of those in the past?Play against spin might improve now Merlyn has arrived. I remember it was used by the England team for the 2005 Ashes.

He was sick today, no dramas injury wise.Chris Martin didn't bowl second innings for Auckland - wonder if he's injured.
Can't believe Mills 10 wickets for the match. Bruce Martin also with 7 - I guess that's good in case he's needed in SA. Looks like a large dose of Lolcanterbury though.
Wasn't that the series were Warne took 40 wickets at 20?Play against spin might improve now Merlyn has arrived. I remember it was used by the England team for the 2005 Ashes.
$$$ I'd say.Why the **** have we not looked into buying one of those in the past?
