I see that Thomas Kaber played in a recent Northerns game after 3 years of little or no news.
I noticed that as well. Just went so quiet after he left school but last season he did well in the Northerns club league and has started well this season. With Harris getting injured and Von Berg shifting up to the Titans he got his chance. I hope he gets more than one 50 over game chance as well.
There was a recent spinners camp taken to India. I think we can see who is in the thoughts.
Dane Piedt (22) Right-arm off-spin
Siya Simetu (21) Slow left-arm
Simon Harmer (23) Right-arm off-spin
Tabraiz Shamsi (22) Slow left-arm chinaman
Eddie Leie (26) Right-arm leg-spin
Shaun Von Berg (26) Right-arm leg-spin
But only Piedt and Harmer have been franchise regulars in the 4-day stuff this season. Obviously Subrayen as well but still 19.
The spinners not included were -
The two limited overs spinners in Roelof Van der Merwe and Aaron Phangiso but they were playing for the 'A' side in Ireland. Right-arm off-spinner, Prenelan Subrayen, was with the SA u19 side along with Gauteng leg-spinner David Rhoda who got a 4-for in the 3rd play-off game but he is prob down the pecking order for Gauteng at the moment.
Kaber (slc) and Vaaltyn (rls) weren't included either but have talent and ability being former SA u19 players and hopefully will start to make strides.
The up and coming schoolboy spinners -
18 year olds - Kyle Simmonds (sla), Shaakir Abrahams (sla)
Not many standout 17 year olds. Mainly talented batsmen who bowl spin and that may be a concern with 17 year olds making up the large majority of the next u19 CWC in Dubai where we need spinners.
16 year olds - Sohail Mahmoud (rls)
There are a couple of 15 year olds who have started their first team careers at school well and should be standout names at the up-and-coming u15 week in right-arm leg spinner Dyllan Matthews (WP & Wynberg) and a left-arm spinner Sean Whitehead (FS & St Andrews).
