The Inaugural CW "Worst Dismissal Ever" Competition

AB de Villiers got caught by a ball which bounced twice

I've no idea how many times it happened in history. You might get out to a long hop or full toss but how on earth you get out to a delivery which pitches twice. It's weird and damn memorable. SA were in trouble in 1st Innings when 5th wicket went down for only 77. In came AB de Villiers and coasted to 45. Then Ashraful came to bowl his trademark long hops and full tosses but instead he sent one which bounced twice before reaching to the popping crease and de Villiers tried to crack it out of the park, looped it in the air and got caught. Ash was ecstatic as if he bowled that intentionally and de Villiers got puzzeled by the legality of the delivery. However he was given out and crowd erupted!

Yeah it does. He should have left the ****ing things alone instead of repeatedly driving balls that were begging to be nicked to the cordon. Particularly as he was the captain, particularly given the match situation at Trent Bridge, particularly as he'd done exactly the same thing at Lord's.
Nah that's just Dhoni being not good enough against superior bowling. Certainly not worthy of the title. The Panesar incident was much worse.

Agreed, not really sure where this is going, nicks to shots outside off-stump are pretty much a thing which happen, we're talking something incredible, aren't we?

He wasn't nicking off defending though. He was nicking off trying to drive a moving new ball when the match (and series) situation called for him to stick around and let Dravid continue to accumulate runs.

Indeed, but honestly I think there have been 1000s similar dismissals. I'm not lessing the ****ness, but we're talking about all time awfulness.

English batting leaves was so normal at one point, the fact is they were all brought up on the fact you couldn't be LBW if it was pitched outside off-stump, irrespective of if it jagged back in. May seem a small matter, but in the end it's the reason people had high back-lifts, if the ball went outside the stumps you padded up.

Gooch, Gatting, Smith, all ****ed up constantly that way. The fact is pitches were so horrible back then this was probably a great relief and they couldn't get out of the practice.

Hussey at Capetown 2011? Im surprised people usually mention haddins but not hussey. Chasing a wide half volley, with australia already having lost a bunch of wickets for virtually nothing is pretty bad. It was the first ball of the session too iirc
I've long considered it worse simply because he had Clarke at the other hand. It was frickin 6/21 with MJ at the other end when Haddin tried to smash a 4

On the videos it's Read leading Hollioake IMO

It's inexplicable how you can misjudge a ball like that.
At least Hollioake was playin for the spin ...

Mark Waugh was also trying to attempting to play the ball.

Nominate Carl Hooper, Melbourne, 2nd innings 1992-93. Caught skying a ball to mid wicket off Warne when trying to save a test match on day five. Led to the classic "Oh Carl....." commentary from Richie.
