Quiney's hardly smashing it either though; when was the last time he actually hit a First Class hundred? Has he even hit one this calender year yet?
Probably because he's an average cricketer.

About now is when I begin to wish that Cosgrove wasn't so obese.

Came close today. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Mind you Maxwell took runs off them today so, well.....

EDIT: tbh, I like Quiney anyway. Seems to bat well in tough conditions, one of those guys who cruises when wickets are tumbling at the other end.
Yeah, gotta say, I rate Quiney a bit higher than Bailey in the "likelihood of scoring runs against a good Test attack" stakes as well, so I won't argue the point for the sake of it.

You do wonder about a guy like Cosgrove, had he been a player in the 80's he would surely have had a chance but players of his shape rarely get selected these days and generally only as a last resort anyway.

I'm assuming you mean 80's as in 1980's but I'm going to take it on a different meaning and assume you're referring to his weight <_<

In which case I totally agree. I reckon he'd be an elite international batsman if he weren't so overweight.

But I disagree re: the 1980's comment. Cosgrove is *seriously* overweight. Like, he'd have a good 60 kilos on Boon or anyone else from that era.

There's a line, and I'd say it'd even have been drawn back then.

He's a good 60 kilos heavier than when he played those ODIs, in all honesty.

Haha, he's not sixty kilos heavier. He would've been clocking in at 90 when he played ODIs anyway, he'd be no bigger than 120 now, surely.

Haha, I doubt you've seen him recently then!

I'm about 90 kilos and his height and I'm much thinner than he was here. I'd say he's 105 there.

Closer to now (he really stacked it on between his Australian debut & 09)

Really highlights it. I'd be surprised if he wasn't pushing 150. I guess him being small (~5'9) probably means he's a little lighter though.

And yeah - this is a really terrible topic of conversation :p

I did mean 1980's. Wasn't so much emphasis on fitness, brilliant fielding and "looking the part" back then. Obviously there are the odd exceptions around but they are a rarity.

If Khawaja stays in today and knocks a hundred against the NSW pace attack then it might bring him into calculations if Ponting isn't right (although I think it is unlikely he'll miss the test).

Will be interesting to see what Doolan ends up with today....his last 4 FC scores have been

149, 95, 60* and 76*

What's turned it around as before this streak he was no where near the A Team?

3 matches ago, his FC career was 1767 runs @ 32.72 and last season was 415 runs @ 29.64

Edit:
I'm guessing maybe because he's had a chance to play with Ponting this year, as a lot of Aussie players state that he is a fantastic mentor for the younger players?

I hope they don't pick Doolan. Would probably go Bailey or Khawaja as cover for Ponting.

It'd have to be a double. He's miles and miles away

we've had plenty of those. it's just none of them have done it for more than a season so when their purple patch goes away, they go away. i'm not really sure doolan is any different in that respect

Sounds as though in recent times he's scored more than the Test XI put together.

Has it been decided which team to 'support' as an Englihsman in this series?
