For all the wizardry of a Warne, Murali or O'Reilly or the reverse swing of the pakistani trio, there could have been no greater test for any batsman's will or skill than facing the West Indies pace attack of tjr early 80's. It was relentless with constant short of a length bowling with ocasional bouncers and yorkers to test their resolve. The fact that they all could muster extreme pace and swing made the job that tougher. They imposed their will on all teams and if that wasn't enough the stares and rare comments (Marshall once asked a batsman if he was going to get out, or would he have to go around the wicket and kill him) was sufficient to do the job.
Yes they were about imposing their collective will on the batsmen and breaking their resolve, and body if they had too.
