i would say the reputation of the order of australia has been damaged by this move, but i've never met anyone who actually gives a **** about it, so if anything, this has created passion for what is otherwise a waste of time and money

It's not a waste of time to acknowledge people who've made a contribution. It's not why we do things but I thought it was great when my grandfather got his OAM.

For his part, he said it stood for "Order Another Middie".

I remember the day it was announced - he got it for service to sport and the community, and when I rocked into his joint he was on the phone to his SP Bookmaker putting his bets on for that arvo.
