***Official*** New Zealand in India 2012

Whilst it could have been a lot worse (total capitulation), it was a disappointing effort from our batsmen. Most of them got starts but once again their lack of temperament at test match level shows.

Franklin should be given a good kick up the arse for that shot. Could end up costing us the match.

Weeeeaaakk, so bloody weak. Starts a plenty but nobody wants to be a hero. Ah well we all expected as much right?

It's not going to be as bad as day five but there is already enough uneven bounce to make any chase tricky.
Yeah but what's tricky? Five or six down? We needed a lead of 300 at least imo, just to maybe give us another shot with the new ball. As it is we'll need to take early wickets again, two or three in the first 20-25 overs probably. This pitch isn't doing enough for Jeetan Patel to be any kind of threat so I don't know, 50 short I reckon.

Three out of the top four are completely out of form! No way India will chase this with five wickets still intact. I think the pitch is doing more than the commentators are giving credit. Chases in the subcontinent are never easy. There's a reason almost 30 wickets have fallen already.

It's more to do with our flakey batsmen than the pitch.

I mean, really, New Zealand? I can't believe the lack of temperament or concentration from some of our batsmen. Is it too much to ask for one of them to face 200 balls or bat for a couple of sessions without doing anything outrageous?

There have been a number of times in this game where the situation has cried out for us to take the game away from India, including the second morning when he could have got 400, when we had India 80/4, and when it was 111/3 with Taylor and Flynn looking comfortable. Hell, even 190/5 with Franklin and Van Wyk.

And every time, we either lose a wicket or give away the initiative with the ball. It's becoming very dull.

We need about 3 or 4 wickets before the score gets to 100, and then hope to pressurize their batsmen into making mistakes. I see us getting them 190/6 before Ashwin scores 40* to take them home by 4 wickets. Because he has obviously made us his team to perform against.

This is a useful batting deck, don't let our dumb ass batsmen fool you into thinking 250 will be a very difficult chase for India.

250 is competitive imo by the state of the match; Sehwag and Gambhir both are currently vulnerable and if Southee can replicate first innings performance with Boult and Bracewell giving their full, this will be a very interesting game. What though NZ will require to stop is the early onslaught from Sehwag and make sure he doesn't go off to a flyer.

The problem is Taylor will be in some sort of dilemma with the field set, when to go all out attack and when to semi defense with such a moderate target and the bowling rotation is key. Captaincy will play a huge role when NZ come out to bowl.

The argument isn't so much about the pitch, it's about our batsmen and the pressure of the 4th innings run chase, admittedly I would be more scared if we were playing against Australia and chasing a 4th innings target. But chasing 250 odd will be tough work.

NZ have missed a golden opportunity though, should have scored 300+ easily and that would have been game set and match. What I think will work in India's favour the most is the fact that NZ's bowlers will be tired, they bowled on day 2, a fair bit on day 3 and now again they'll have to bowl early in the morning. Indian batsmen have to keep that in mind when batting.

Can't see India having too much trouble getting 250 on their home turf. The fact that it's a 4th innings on a wearing pitch will not bother India, Sehwag excepted. 250 is not a big score in Test cricket if you eliminate those sorts of factors. If NZ can make 230odd batting pretty badly then why should India struggle? It will take a lot of damage with the new ball to even up the game. NZ really need to eke out some more runs with the 10th wicket partnership and get some momentum back. Can't see them getting enough to make the 2nd new ball a factor unfortunately.

Anyway hope India collapse in heap and get bundled out for 100. Disappointing that NZ couldn't turn a good position into a dominating one.

Highest 4th Innings total in Bangalore to date is 239, next is 214 and both by India.

This match has all the makings of a thriller

Indian and New Zealand fans trying to outdo each other in belittling their own chances.

This is like a side contest to see who has the most pessimistic fans.

See what our teams have done to us? We've been hurt so often in the past we can't even scrape up the tiniest iota of optimism.

To be fair to India fans including myself, we did just come off 8-0.
