Nah tend to agree that we need 400+ on this track. Hopefully at least one of these two can battle through tomorrow morning and we can push on. Decent day, though it could've been a great one if Guptill, Franklin and Taylor hadn't merrily tossed their wickets away.

Southee, Boult and Patel are well capable of contributing with the bat so scoring 400+ is definitely a possibility.

We definitely need 400+. I think when India bat we will see this pitch is pretty flat and our bowlers will struggle unless the atmosphere provides some real swing. Plus there should be more turn second innings so our batting will have its work cut out.

Taylor's century and this partnership has us in the game though

Very pleasantly surprised by Kruger's innings there. Played superbly.

But I still think honours are pretty even at the moment. We need to not collapse horribly in the morning.

Isn't it sad though, as NZ fans that we have got very, very excited about one day of Test cricket? Or is it more reward that these rare days mean even more to us?
Being somewhat on the front foot after a day of Test cricket IN INDIA is always a good thing.

Will be interesting to see how Southee goes about his business if and when he comes out to bat. I noticed he looked like he was coming in against Patel, which was interesting.

Dougeh looks like a good bowling allrounder. Good enough to average near 30.

Van Wyk looked horrible at the start but he blossomed and played a really good knock.

I fear our batting might collapse in the second dig on what should be a turning track so I agree that 400 is a must and hope for some sort of lead.

Suck it up, mate. He played well today.

I'd be happy with 350-375 tbh. Bracewell is looking pretty comfortable atm which is good.
Van Wyk look pissed we had to come off for bad light just from lip reading him. But they don't really offer the light to the batsman any more or we would have stayed out there.

Terrific knock by bracewell - wonderful supporting role - very glad they stuck with van wyk for this game.

I didn't see any of taylor's inning except for his six over long off.

Franklin's dismissal was attrocious execution.

You mean as a bowler right?

Nope, as a batsman, with bowling being his main suite.

Look at him: good technique, and a what looks like a good attitude at the crease. Surely he should be able to average around 28-30 over the long term.
He does seem to have a sound technique. I'd be happy if he managed an average in the 19-22 region, though.

Yeah that seems much more realistic. I mean, you see how tough it is for our batsmen to average 30 in test cricket. Bracewell seems like a competent enough batsmen, pretty similar in many ways to Kyle Mills.

I think 25 is more realistic. He looks competent at 21 years of age. He has a solid base so could conceivably improve to that level as he gets more experience under his belt. Players like Broad average 26/27.

Reece Young. He got one average series and was dropped. Van Wyk had an okay one, a very average one, then another bad Test and still kept his place. Reece is a better keeper and is a very similar batsman - without being 'gritty'.

Well, aim high instead of accepting mediocrity, I think.

I think our batsmen should average 40 and our allrounder(s) should average near 30. Perfectly reasonable.
