Poor Ratts. Never fully loved by the Blues fans, which always intrigued me.

Ah well, can't be losing to the Gold Coast, unless you're Hardwick !
Funnily enough was pretty underrated by Carlton fans as a player as well, I thought.

Going to be an interesting few weeks. If Malthouse gets signed up during the finals series, wonder if there will be any current Collingwood staff leaving to join him, and leaving Buckley with what happened to Malthouse in Neeld, Watters and Brad Scott.

I mean, just because the AFL were rewarding tanking doesn't mean that the Carlton board should do the same for the coach.

unless of course the board told stand-in ratten to get that pick. in which case, awkward

the whole 'we shall not give a coach a one year deal' has really bit carlton the butt here. they couldn't sack him last year, but he wasn't proven yet. a one year deal would have been the best option. but obviously that just doesn't happen

Of course he was encouraged to get it.

Goes to show that tanking just for number 1 pick over number 2 is folly. Rarely a sizeable difference between the two.

Unless it's Watts and Natanui...

Am I the only person that appreciates the irony of a former Collingwood coach joining their side's arch-enemy?

or Matthew Kreuzer & Trent Cotchin

The folly is in thinking that you can ever have too many midfielders.

Surely you'd have to say that, all things being equal, a team with Cotchin and Warnock is better than a team without both but with Kreuzer.

Leuenberger over Gibbs and then Cotchin and then you don't bother with Warnock and keep Jacobs for maybe longer
it's all so easy how could carlton **** it up. smh.

thinking about it, we haven't had the number 1 player become the number 1 player out the draft, or something near it, since about 04 and 05. must be the vic_orthdox touch. i mean obviously buddy > lids and pendles > murphy. but it's hella closer than watts and whoever

God forgot about Jacobs.

Dunno about Leunberger over Gibbs though. Gibbs is probably the biggest indictment on Ratten's coaching, itbt.

Over time it's been the minority anyway (number 1 player being the best pick).

EDIT: always get a giggle out of how ordinary the 2003 draft was.

Spikey thoughts on McVeigh? He could have been your captain had he not been friends with Solomon!
