if we actually need christan's batting at 8 - and he probably should be listed at 7 - we've really goofed up

I like it tbh. I'll like it even more when Watson can replace Christian. Maxwell can just float and come in whenever we need a bit of a boost without having a set position as such.

I don't think Doherty really adds enough to the side batting 11 and taking 1/47 off 10 every game; I think having a longer, more fluid batting lineup with more firepower towards the end is a bigger asset than those 10 overs through the middle. We've still got the four seamers (it'll be Watson in for Christian at full strength which is an improvement too) and Maxwell/Clarke/Dussey to cover 10-15 overs of spin between them.

The first ball of this Christian over gives you some good insight into Wade's attitude and demeanour. The guy dropped a take that you'd expect most international standard keepers to take, up to the stumps to Christian, but instead of admonishing himself, throwing the ball from glove to glove pretending to get the feel for the ball, he's actually clapping and encouraging Christian before he's even retrieved the ball.

There is a self-assuredness about him, in spite of his weaknesses, that leads me to think that he will make it.

Starc is the best one day bowler Australia has to offer at the moment, barring (possibly) Harris. No arguments.

Given I don't think he's in Australia's best four or five longer-format bowlers and I don't think he's actually better at one day cricket than he is at proper cricket, it doesn't say a lot about the development of one day bowling skills in the country at the moment really. Not that I'm complaining if it's improving their Test skills but it's worth noting.
