Not Terrible
I was disheartened till I realised this was a genius ploy to let us bowl in the 4th innings. Well played boys.

like this pitch ..... a turning pitch in India - have become a much rarer thing since the mid 2000s or so ....

What a ****ing pathetic effort. And it won't get better in the second innings. McCullum will get himself out, Guptill the trainwreak will get 10 off 72 balls before offering a lame catch after getting stuck against the spinners. Flynn will try to hit himself out of trouble, trying to tell the world he is an attacking batsman.

Hesson looks like a dud choice already with a giant NZ persecution complex.

It won't get any better. The bowling is alright but the batsmen are only interested in IPL contracts.

Oh, and great ****ing idea not having any warm-up matches.
Some time, you're going to realise the simple fact of NZ cricket - we're just not very good, and it's not worth getting worked up about.

Anyway, decent effort by Franklin - actually seems more at home batting in India than at home. May this be the start of better things to come.

It's funny to see Martin fail, but, really, when it comes down to it it must piss off NZ fans to no end, and rightly so too imo. It's a joke really that an international cricketer can be so inept with the bat...does he actually do it on purpose for the attention he gets or something?
Yep, given he's absolutely hopeless with the ball too he's probably one of the most useless international cricketers running around. At best going into a game you can probably expect 2/80 and the poor sod that has to bat with him slogging a quick 15-20 runs.

?

His only overseas tests were down here.

Draw your own conclusions.
Better average in Oz than Harbhajan and Murali.

This is what is going to happen, he will keep playing for India in all formats. Kohli will become captain and be captain till he gets dropped at 35 by which time Ashwin will be 37. He will captain India for one or two years and retire in the middle of a home series because everyone says he is out of form taking his 619th wick-

1000th wicket.:cool2:

Wow, Manjrekar and Shastri rubbishing the NZ coach...a bit harsh. I don't see why cricketers think that you had to be at least a FC cricketer to be a coach...it's not like that in other sports. Many coaches in other sports haven't played that sport outside of High School.

Nah, don't buy that. Sure, we will never be the best in the world, but FFS is it too much to ask the batsmen to apply themselves? Taylor, McCullum, and Williamson are as much talented as Fleming, Astle, and McMillan so there is no excuse for them not to be averaging in the high 30s to the early 40s.

Hesson should be back in the dressing room giving to the batsmen. Instead, he's in the 3rd umpire's box, FFS. And he'll return, pat his mate McCullum on the back, and say "Go and show the world you're as good as Sehwag."

The past decade of results suggests that the answer to that is yes. We always talk as though if our batsmen just had "application" and "determination" they'd suddenly become decent, but in reality their execution is pretty lousy too.

The thing is that McCullum plays attacking shots to balls that even attacking openers like Gayle and Sehwag would be leaving or defending. (ok, maybe recent Sehwag who has a large element of cbf about him might have a swing). Far too ambitious and this lack of judgment has characterised his whole career.

If only John Wright was still coaching huh, we'd probably be 300/1 right now.

I think they were annoyed that he was in the third umpires box for so long, and IMO that criticism is fair (whether you agree or not). But they were attacking his qualifications, which I thought was a bit harsh (e.g he never played FC cricket, was Otago second XI, etc) considering Manjarekar just admitted doing research on him right now.
