**Official** South Africa in England 2012

Yep; he's gone from being a big weakness in the batting lineup to a (very) minor strength. Definitely a little bit better than your average #10.
I think he's more the benchmark for a modern no.10 can score a few on occasion and has a solid defence, or a solid enough defence.

His contribution overshadows the shot. If Dale got 35, he would have been commended.
That is the kind of attitude that's always held SA back from truly dominating. Philander played solidly, no question, but he could have hung in there for another ten overs or so and helped bat England out of the game completely.

Yeah Philander definitely should've gone on to score a big hundred. That's twice in this match alone that he's got his eye in and then pissed away a good start; should be dropped IMO.

We are dominating after that partnership.

So is an English win out of the script now? If the target ends up being 350 off 90 overs, the required run rate tomorrow would be 3.8 an over. Might have been possible with KP. SA will be ****ting their pants if Prior manages to pull the innings of his life out of his ass tomorrow. Only guy in the line up who can strike at KP's rate in the XI as far as I know. Can Bairstow play an aggressive, lengthy innings?

18 overs left today...let's say we get these two in the next 5 overs (which is potentially excessively optimistic anyway) then that will leave us 11 overs today.

350-60 off 100 overs is still a big ask. If we somehow pulled this one off it would be monumental and we'd deserve to keep our place at the top. As it is, I suspect we will fall short.
