Well when you go in with 4 bowlers and one's clearly carrying an injury, what do you expect?
Finn's only bowled twelve; absolutely no reason he couldn't have bowled a two over spell there. It was just tactical, for only God knows what reason.

Even though Swann needs an operation, the elbow problems he's got wouldn't stop him from bowling his overs, wouldn't be picked otherwise you'd have thought. Just think it was one of those, stick the part timer on and hope they **** up, nearly happened as well.

Well Finn has tired in the last few tests, so maybe they wanted him fresh for the evening session, again wouldn't be needed with 5.

Well considering we need to win, rolling them would have been ideal. You won't often get such a deep batting line up out for a very low score though, and it isn't as if a score in the 200s puts us out of the game. Very hard to tell what par is, depends on whether the clouds stick around you'd think.

Around 240 would be well under par imo, it would keep them in the game but England would fancy passing that by some distance even with two new guys.

The pitch isn't a green top by any stretch, the new ball did a bit but you'd expect that here, once the ball softened though it's not done a huge amount, it's got good bounce though.

No doubt we'll want to get a wicket early doors here though and get into those bowlers.

A lot will depend on what the over head conditions are like when we bat, hopefully it'll be glorious sunshine.

Oh, I'm in an incredibly pessimistic view with our batting, just think the debutants are under such pressure, and they'll be facing top-class bowling in tricky conditions, if they score 30 between them I'll be surprised.

Oh, and Trott again, WTF.

Taylor got more than that on debut didn't he, hope he can go even better here.

If they get over 240, advantage them IMHO, so advantage them, needed to roll them, given the start.
I think 240 will still be well below par, Lord's tends to go flatter and flatter after the first day, so batting should get easier. Tomorrow however could be affected by rain, so we really need to dismiss SA today. After tomorrow it should get sunnier and much warmer so batting should get easier and bowling more and more of a chore.

Stating the obvious, England will have to work really, really hard to win this game.

WoooooooHoooooooooooooooo!

Played on - a very lazy shot from Rudolph.

Now the tail begins - but fairly gradually I suppose.

Decent innings from Rudolph in the circumstances but he'll be disappointed by that. Almost did but not quite; sums up his career in a lot of ways.
