Sorry mate, no way was Lindwall a better batsman than Tallon :p I can only assume you say that having only considered test match averages. Tallon at 6 is obviously a questionable call though.

Bradman was certainly not Miller's greatest fan, something that I can't help but think affected his decision
Yeh, I guess Tallon had a better FC record, but what can you say when Lindwall has a better test average, when the team will (presumably) play a test style match. In the highest comp available, Lindwall showed himself to be a more competent bat.

In the 46/47 series v England, Tallon batted at 8, and Lindwall after him at 9.

However, in there India series of 47/48, Lindwall went to 7, and Tallon batted beneath him.

Which both clearly illustrate how absurd Bradman's selection of Tallon at six and Lindwall at seven is in his ATG team is. In Bradman's own teams they rarely batted that high, so why would you put them there in an ATG team? His team would have been improved greatly by dropping Bedser and playing Miller (or Imran, or Botham) as an all rounder. Two pace bowlers and two spinners means the 5th bowlers won't need to bowl a heap anyway, and in addition there's Sobers as the sixth bowler!

Ah, those were the days.

It's the difference between 9 and 12 participants. Competing with 11 others is a lot more tricky especially in a format like this current one where being nice doesn't help you.

@watson a safe assumption - I fact my 12th man will be a vital part of my team if all goes to plan

@Monk averages don't mean everything but obviously I see your point - Tallon was a far more reliable batsman if I you allow me to speculate somewhat - Lindwall more the "have a bash" type

Chappelli: Dunno Keith. Maybe in their next innings. What's Brian doing?

Miller: I think he's fallen asleep.
