It's actually utterly unsurprising to see that kind of dismissal when the batsman was stonewalling - so intent on survival that they sort of forget to score runs, so when they get a pie (which that was) they don't do it properly at all.
Ravi wasn't stonewalling tbf. Nor should he have been.

anyway, ravi probably has to go if only because he looked late against steyn all game. may as well see if compton can handle the pace

Playing in a defensive mindset, then.

I still think the best way, by and large, to save a match is by - gasp - batting normally.

Solid grouping from Morkel, don't think he's landed two deliveries in the same spot this morning.

I think that surely must be it for Ravi's test career. Nice kid and all, but just not there mentally for the fight.

Even aside from the fact it was an airy waft, he didn't even try to get to the pitch of the ball. If he'd moved his feet the edge may've just cannoned into his pads.

Easy game from here, etc.

But that's it. If your mindset excludes - or diminishes - run-scoring, then your footwork will follow.

Compton
Taylor
Hildreth
Patel
Moeen Ali

That's just for starters, of people that should be ahead of Bop in Tests, I'm afraid.

Camera just homed in on a very red-faced spectator - not sure what he's going to look like when he leaves. How people can sit in the sun all day without hat or sunglasses is beyond me.

Not sure he was 22 from 55 not a disastrous run-rate in Test Cricket, he's just not up to it, I'm afraid.

He'll only be there until an hour after lunch....

Unfortunately Taylor is having a poor season in the Championship, just when he needed a good one. May have to wait a while longer.

I think Compton of those looks most the finished article.

Last time we selected an SA-raised blocker in his late twenties was Trott.

QED, I reckon.

Anyway, Prior not going to miss out when the balls are there to put away by the look of it.

Is there a particular reason why you lot can't find a decent number 6? What happened to Morgan? surely, in the long term, he is the best option?

Technique literally distintegrated in the winter.

Not a test player. Has the mental side, just not the game. Too loose.

He had a dire series in the UAE, still one of the first picks for ODIs but the feeling persists that that's his forte. A latterday Neil Fairbrother (or Michael Bevan, if you like).

ABdV :(

Gotta take those.

Beautiful ball. Bell will have to do a bit better than blocking from the crease if he wants to get through here.

Absolute ripper from Tahir. Have to think he'll bear the brunt of SA not fielding a real keeper.
