Was Gower saying the pitch was too placid when Cook and Trott were batting?
They have been saying it is very slow all game to be fair.

The very favourable overhead conditions perhaps made the pitch seem more lively than it is imo. Since the rain moved through yesterday, the ball has been arrow straight, whereas it was swinging wildly at times on Friday before the rain.
