two options for drainage at cricket grounds - expensive and cheap. Puddles on outfield offer big clue to which one edgbaston opted for

What about Lara facing a hat trick ball with sunglasses on?

Was really hoping they'd show a game where he got some runs though :(

Puddles on the outfield? I thought Edgbaston had the 'Brumbrella' - which covers the whole playing area, not just the square.

And if Chanders doesn't play, England will fancy their chances of winning in two days.

Saturday's likely to be the only full day though. :(

Can any West Indian fans fill me in on why Miller and Austin have recieved three Tests between them? Austin has a tremendous First Class record and Miller's is even better. Their records are far better than Shillingford or Benn - so why were the latter two given the shot. Also, how is all-rounder, Bernard doing? I liked the look of his bowling when I saw him play international cricket.
Miller has already played ODi's for us and he was poor to be honest, way too defensive and that's not gonna help when you need wickets, his domestic record is fantastic but he's what i'd call a "regional bully", he's playing in the best team alongside another leggy called Odean Brown who also takes a bunch of wickets each year but they simply aren't international standard imo,

Austin is a tough one because he doesn't play for one of the big teams but each year he keeps taking wickets, him and one of our other most promissing spinners named Kavesh Kantasingh had a great partnership and would murder teams each season but last year Kantasingh went back to Trinidad and it put him off a little, still had a great year though but he's just unlucky that he's playing at a time when Bishoo and now Narine have come on the scene, would like to see him in the A-team though, i also think he's been a little damaged by his poor performance in his test debut vs Bang when our main players went on strike a few years ago and we ended up losing the series.
Would say it's simply down to too many spinners to choose from. It all depends on who likes you. Brown for instance got selected for the A team a couple years ago, did well and hasn't been picked for one again since. It's not a forgiving atmosphere for spinners. Wouldn't be surprised to see Benn not play again even if he takes 200 wickets next domestic season.

They got rid of the Brumbella in 2001 because it broke down all the time.

My understanding is that most of the test grounds have a son of Lords drainage set up these days, I'm not sure if that is the case for Edgbaston but I did here a nasty rumour they had a company from Yorkshire do their drainage system and relay their outfield. The last two international fixtures I have tried to attend at Headingly have been completely rained out including one where it was bright sunshine for the whole day, such that I spent most of it in a pub beer garden. Make of that what you will.

Geniune question, what'd be the best thing to do assuming today is rained out? I mean make-this-game-remotely-interesting wise.

EDIT: Lol, and ten minutes later...

Win the toss, bat aggressively, try and bowl the other team for 100 or more less than your score, make them follow on, bowl them out, win.

There should be some play tomorrow (assuming the ground isn't actually flooded) but the rain will return on Sunday - this will be a one day Test, so it doesn't matter what they do and it doesn't really matter who plays either.

Serves us right for trying to play cricket in this country in June.
