I don't see how you can criticise Shiv, without him WI would be getting pummelled by everyone, he plays his way and keeps the side in matches by scoring heavily. Remove him and his runs from the team and WI would struggle to pass 200 in any innings.

I guess the nearest bloke to him is Kallis, he bats in the bubble but deserves the criticism more as he won't change gears even when SA are on top and looking to set up declarations. Trott does too for England to some extent but he does know there are guys lower in the order like KP and Prior who can easily make up time in a game with some power hitting.

All sides could do with a guy who scores over 10000 runs averaging over 50 though. Shiv probably gets too much unfair stick as he isn't pleasing on the eye, far more effective than many supposed better players though.
These players get far too much stick in tests and not enough in ODIs, imo.

Why do you post here CWB given you are so much better than all of us?
There are great posters here, like Smali and CricketIsMyLife and BlackWarrior, whose insightful comments I'm always happy to read and learn from.

some behind the scenes talk on my stream. upon a batsman being dismissed fishing out-side off Nasser says "Nick Knight knows all about this"
Yeah saw that, think it was a mistake by the sky director. Nasser was saying, "I'll waffle on about some stats".

Good start so far by the openers. I wait for Strauss to throw it away once he passes 30 though.

New boy looks like he has a decent action. Seen far worse opening overs on debut.

Gabriel looks ok. No first over jips from bowling at Lords. He seems to jump a bit wide on the crease ala Bres of 2010 however.

Not really a fan of the new kid's action. Its extremely restrictive, especially with the wide angle and really give him only one method of taking wickets. Not to mention that lbw is completely out of the equation for both left handers.

Odd innings from Cook. Some good shots mixed with some terrible ones, didn't have a particularly long-lived feel about it.

Reckon Gabriel just unfolds a bit too much; momentum ends up towards fine leg (for a left hander) for all of his weight to be behind the bowling arm. Can see a tired version floating a few balls up later in the day.
