Your reading of it would be all well and good if he'd ever actually done well for England in the first place.

He's the type of player English people tend to rate much lower than everyone else. And, probably as a consequence, the type of player the national team always seems to be missing.

Who needs a player who can calmly retain possession? Get it to Gerrard and get it forward.

Exactly GF, especially when we've got Carroll to get on the end of his passes, works a dream at club level.

I've not watched all his games for England, considering how spaced out they are, but don't remember him doing badly and he had a few good games in those 22.

Don't forget getting it wide quickly, so that Downing can put in the lovely dipping and precise crosses he is reknowned for.

Although 0 assists, apparently Downing led the league in chance creation again.
Although i didn't win the lottery, the amount of tickets I bought meant I created the most chances......

Guess that makes me a success

Out of all the analogies you could have used in order to [rightly] point out that Downing's been dire, you picked that? Such a poor example.

Hardlines for the Canaries' custodian. Busted finger.

Jack Butland's coming in. Sure I'm not the only one who thought Jack who?

Been on loan at Cheltenham this season, apparantly.

Well that's OK then.

Really is extraordinary though. Are there really no English keepers in the EPL apart from Hart & Ruddy? West Brom have one don't they?

Yeah, but I think Foster's on a semi-retirement/cry because we were making the poor little lamb travel all over Yurp to sit on the bench. Ditto Robinson too.

There's Carson as well tho, but I must admit I don't really follow Turkish domestic footy so have no idea how he's gone this year.

Butland is decent but made a number of right howlers last season, one against my lot and is nowhere near ready for this. Pray we don't lose Joe for any reason.

I guess Scott Carson leaving Baggies means Hodgson doesn't like him.
