If you were in the know you could have backed either side to win at massive odds. Don't like fixed matches like this one at Bristol.

No play at Hove, despite there not having been a single drop of rain today in Sussex. :(

It's been the wettest drought ever!

Had a real good day at New Road today. Arrived late and as expected Surrey had lost a couple of wickets and KP was already batting. KP worked hard but the first positive shot I saw he was caught behind. Already it was abundantly clear that the wicket was a slow pudding, not exactly suited to Surreys batting lineup of strokeplayers. Anyway Surrey hardly got the ball of the square in that session and wicket after wicket fell and they ended the session at 50 odd for 8.

After lunch they came out and the whole game changed. Rudolph and Edwards (who batted quite well for someone at no.10 on first class debut) played more positively and after a couple of boundaries worcester put the field back for Rudolph. They opened after lunch with Lucas and Jones to allow Richardson (I assume) to rest for the inevitable burst with the new ball in the second innings but the bowlers didn't bowl too well meaning Richardson had to be brought back and eventually he dismissed Rudolph with a brilliant yorker to bring the innings to an end.

Second innings and talk about a terrible blow for Worcestershire's chances was the injury to Richardson. He bowled a delivery and pulled up with something looking like a arm injury but after a minute or so he went and bowled the next delivery and walked off straight away after. Richardson was very impressive as you can imagine from a current wisden cricketer of the year and was consistently very accurate and was the only one of the worcester bowlers to get consistent lift(and i would assume lateral movement although tough to tell).

anyway rudolph and then ramps fell for a pair(caught down the leg side and walked) and KP came out to bat again. This time he attacked from the start and tbf he was excellent. Hardly played a false shot and looked lightyears ahead of everybody on the day. It must be amazing to be Pietersen with his skill and athletic ability. Davies looked like he was struggling with the conditions and form but grinded it out - I'm guessing he's hoping for the day when he gets to bat in the middle order once again.

Haha then RHB came in and raced to (about?) 20 of 7 balls (first shot was in the air past where square leg would have been but after that quality clips of the legs) but after that he calmed down and actually played really well and intelligently just allowing Maynard who was a bit streaky but hit the ball hard to attack.

Of the Worcester bowlers Lucas is just a medium pace accurate bowler who doesn't look to give you much and the keeper stood upto him for a good deal of the day and is nothing special. Jones looks decent when he pitches it up but is a bit erratic - he can bowl some really good balls but he bowls one bad ball an over(normally short and wide outside offstump). He bowls at good pace and if he ever improved his consistency he'd probably be a good bowler. Kapil bowled at decent pace and reasonably accurately but I'd guess he's gone to struggle to ever make it because as harsh as it sounds he is too small.

Anyway tomorrow could be quite a good day with Richardson presumably still injured Surrey will look to scrape towards a decent target. Richardson will be a massive blow to Worcester if his injury is long term as Worcs aren't exactly lineing up the fast bowlers. And finally whatever you think of Surrey they are damn exciting to watch. and somehow I'm sunburnt.

also wtf happened at bristol. haha as average and inexperienced as gloucestershires attack is 400 is some score to agree to score by yorkshire. great bit of negotiation by gidman( good for something finally)imo, however flat and slow the wicket presumably is.

.... also wtf Ollie Rayner, nice score against a test quality attack,.. and then two wickets at the end of play.

The wicket's basically a second day track given the interruptions.
and?

yes im not saying it's a bad decision for yorkshire. they need to get promoted so to some extent they're going to take a long shot at winning a few games that would otherwise be draws - so they're going to take whats offered. Gidman i guess knows that Yorkshire have this pressure on them to get promoted (Glos really don't) so could play hard ball on the target yorkshire have to chase.

370 in any day is a lot and bristol isn't a particularly quick scoring ground so even with gloucestershire's extremely inexperienced bowling i think they're favourites to win.

I'd post the footage of fred's frenzied raindances - coracle on his head and everything - but it's frankly unsuitable for showing on a family forum

Mark Davies figures, 13 overs, 3 for 7 with 8 maidens. Impressive. Virus and Ravi can't bat for Essex until they are 5 down, I think.

Didn't realise you'd arranged a camera in my bedroom Mr Z

Do you think there's any chance of some joke bowling, a couple of forfeits and an interesting afternoon?

It was an utterly lousy "deal" to make. Gloucs were at 299/9, a decent but not imposing score, with a day and a half remaining. There was a chance of getting a legit win if we'd bowled them out cheaply in the second innings. By allowing a forfeit they lost that chance.

Yes the game probably would've been a draw, but with so many other matches rained off that's far better than setting up an absurdly high chase for themselves. When was the last time 380 was chased down on the last day?

I'm urging them on as ever but if the batsmen do it then it's their win, and no credit should go to the decision to attempt it. Safe to say Gale had better put it where his mouth is and get some friggin' runs.

Lanky going down the "joke batting" route instead. Magoffin takes his second for a second bowling bonus for Sussex and the Red Rose on 118/6.

Desperately ordinary shot from Cross; seemed to be trying to defend a wide one with an angled bat.

Lol. Shahzad batting in a Yorkshire helmet with a bit of sticking plaster over the badge.

Didn't help him much as Anyon bowls a jaffa and he's good enough to find the edge. Duck on debut. 127/7

Hmm. Lancs declare on 144/8, denying Sussex a third bowling point. Mildly tight of them, I'd say, especially there doesn't seem any collusion in the offing to manufacture a result.

Incidentally, Naved Arif seems to be following in the footsteps of Giddins and Kirtley as "Sussex seamers with a dodgy actions". Looks a distinct kink there, possibly exaggerated by a "wristy" delivery action, but looks to be some elbow in there too.
