that's wisden told me:

Wisden Almanack ‏ @WisdenAlmanack

Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on POV) it isn't first-class as it's 3rd of L/B's 3 matches v counties. Arbitrary.

Twitter
Yeah I saw that too, but that's crazy, it makes no sense whatsoever. Why would the first two matches against Counties be first-class but not the third? It's like saying that the first two matches of a Test series can be official Tests, but not the last.

Although ...

Unsurprisingly Virus falls LBW. 145 runs too many though while Essex have lost two in two balls.

2 things that gave me a chuckle today,1 was Sussex, the 2nd was this comment I've spotted on Cricinfo.

Zaremba heading for Beachy Head I guess ... how come this isn't first-class? Presumably Sussex were aware of that or they wouldn't have put out what's basically a second XI.
Jesus. Only just seen the score. ****ing terrible.

Looks like an outstanding effort from Alviro Petersen today against his former side, 145 out of 259 puts Essex in a relatively strong position when you consider Glamorgan's batting so far this season and if conditions at Cardiff are less than comfortable for batsmen I'd expect the experienced county operators - David Masters and Charl Willoughby - to make life exceptionally difficult for the hosts. A battling half-century from Mark Pettini at least offered Petersen some support during the day's play.

Graham Wagg's four first innings wickets and Huw Waters three victims mean they have 20 and 18 wickets respectively for this season so far at very measly averages. They just need some of their batsmen to pull their fingers out.

A late wicket Andre Adams wicket just took some of the shine off an otherwise fantastic day for Lancs. With Notts capitulating to 169 all out, would have been certain that Jimmy Anderson would have been the main destroyer, but he went 17 overs without anything to show in the W column. The consistent Glen Chapple and the ever-improving Simon Kerrigan doing the damage with four each. A mention for Samit Patel, I'm not his biggest fan in terms of international selection, but without his 69 today Notts may already have been seriously staring down the barrel in this one.

Two other centurions today that have consequently put their teams into positions of strength were Derby's skipper Wayne Madsen who has endured a tough start to the season up to this point, and Jonny Bairstow who will hopefully continue to build on his excellent season last year and push for that number six slot in the England Test side. I understand it wasn't vintage Bairstow today, but if you can score 141 not out while not at your best, that can only bode well for his development.

Looks like a low-scoring affair at Edgbaston, with visitors Durham being skittled out for 163 before Graham Onions struck three times in the Warks innings, including the massive wicket of run-machine Jon Trott, to restrict them to 116-5. Ian Bell, however, ominously poised on 59 not out. Welcome runs indeed for Bell after his recent problems, here's hoping he really pushes on tomorrow if he can find some support in a deep Warks batting line-up.

Finally, Northants are hoping to turn around their poor early season form against Hants, and will be pleased Andrew Hall is back in the starting line-up. He wasn't able to resist the slide to 218 all out today but picked up two early wickets in Hants reply. Northants are not the only side having batting issues so far this season, last year they were saved on numerous occasions by a strong mid-lower order in Hall/O'Brien/Middlebrook, but it's the top order that really need to start setting the platforms this year.

And for the final summation of the day, Woodster's roundup is better than Cricinfo's.

Chalkyfor6# lets get it trending.

Moved to Hampshire's coaching staff.

The thing is aobut that post, Chalky coming back is still mor elikely than Jones making it through a Test match, or the trip to the ground.
