*Official* English Football Season 2011-12

Norwood's on Fire
They had a bad start, but they weren't bottom 3 when he left and easy fixtures were skewed towards the end of the season when he'd already left. I don't see how it should be such a black mark against him when he inherited a weak squad, didn't net spend and had almost no time to do anything before he was out again.
Dalglish had half a season so the easy fixtures argument just doesn't cut the mustard IMO

I don't agree with everything Ikki says on the Hodgson thing, but I don't see why people aren't holding his record at Liverpool against him a little more. To have Liverpool in the position he did is indefensible. I'm not sure whether he just didn't get the backing he felt he needed, certainly he made some questionable signings, but it is a worry that perhaps he couldn't handle some of the bigger egos that grace that squad. Good luck with England if that is indeed the case.

I don't want Redknapp or Hodgson but I actually do think Redknapp is probably the better manager of the two, although as Uppercut said, his main strength is in the transfer market.

Again, get a foreigner.
Would agree with this (apart from maybe the bit about Arry) Hodgson may not be a terrible manager but it really is an uninspiring choice.

He has a very set way of setting his sides up that has brought him some success in the past but it is essentialy very limited. If England are happy to play like Greece or Switzerland and maybe scrap through the group with a couple of draws and a 1-0 win then maybe he is the man for the job. Given it's what they did at the world cup so maybe it's what the FA cup is going for but surely he should not be seen as someone to take England beyond Euro 2012?

Second problem as you mention is his handling of big egos and the media, think he could very easily crack under the strain, already looks sloghly unhinged at times.

Round 9 - half his tenure gone - we were actually in the relegation zone, nevermind fighting not to be in it. When Roy left we were 12th, but only 4 points off the relegation zone. When Kenny came only Chelsea had a better record from that period onwards - which was the halfway point of the league - and we almost challenged for a CL spot at one point before a couple losses at the end. There is no way you can even try to exonerate him. Especially if you saw the way we played.

hardly matters does it though. Hodgson did a poor job at Liverpool in admittedly difficult circumstances, whatever has happened after that does not change it.

Anyhow excited about today's game. Care a little less than I would have done If City had been ahead going into the game, the fact that the title race seemed to be over a few weeks ago means this is almost an unexpected bonus.

Roy is obviously a reasonable manager - the problem is that the truth lies somewhere between Scaly and Ikki and there is no surprise there!

IMO, he could do a reasonable job if he has the backing to get rid of ****wits like Terry, etc who have no business representing their country

Last few years!!. I remember Bobby Robson being hounded around both Euros he presided over, then the nonsense that any good that happened was down to the ****wit players. Even in 1990, the stick we got after a decent draw against a good Republic side was immense.

The ravenous tabloid press has held us back, in more things than football, for as long as I can remember.
Hate to be a pedant (well, no, it's like fresh air to me, actually, anyway...) but Bobby only took us to one. We missed out on 84 because of an Allan Simonsen (sp?) pen at Wembley.

Anyway, happy Woy's not 'Arry, unhappy he's not Morinho. That about covers my feelings.

Did think the horlicks he made of the Scouse gig would have ruled him out tho, but.

Just seen on the BBC website that John Barnes has given Roy his backing as the right choice for the job, an ominous sign, perhaps.

Well, United got what they deserved, after an enterprising start, they just parked the bus. I've laid even more against Citeh now though, I'm gonna win loads:huh:
