England name their Lions team at 1pm today for the game in May against West Indies. Always interesting to see who is off interest. I wouldn't mind something like this personally.
Chopra ( was with the performance squad this winter and scored two big hundreds in sri lanka to go with his form last season)
Root
Bopara
Taylor
Bairstow
Stokes
R Clarke
W Gidman
Coles (performance squad and seems to have come back with improved consistency. bowls pretty quick and can bat)
Meaker
Kerrigan
Onions, Finn and Bresnan are all well known and England know enough about them. Harris and Woakes are both still injured so Clarke(**** but can't really dispute his displays over the last year or so) and Gidman deserve a chance even though they are a bit older and not good enough.
Maybe give Samit a chance instead of Clarke as he's got the no.6 position with england at present and the other rivals (bopara, taylor, stokes, bairstow) are playing.

Brooks and Fletcher are two names I'd quite like to see at least in the squad.

Brooks certainly deserves a chance, ahead of the likes of Clarke and Meaker, and I think Compton will get a game.
We're looking poor for openers, Chopra a decent shout, would prefer Hales over Root, but it's all a bit desperate.

yes Brooks probably should be in there. Fletcher would be unlikely- even at 23 seems destined to be only a good county pro.

Outside chance. but given he hasn't made a squad before and hasn't made any big early season scores it would seem unlikely. Certainly a player that will interest England in the future if he continues to score runs.

Brooks is a decent shout but I don't particularly rate Fletcher, or should I say they're plenty of better bowlers in the Country ahead of him , like you say I see him as a good county pro.

Kinda dissapointed that they went for Root over Chopra. Warwickshire are the spare team that week not playing a game in the CC, not that the ECB tend to take that into account when selecting teams. Considering Warws did so well last season and have started this season so well it seems strange that they have no representatives in the lions team.
Bringing back Carberry makes sense giving his form last season and Strauss' non form.
Don't know why they selected both Dernbach and Meaker really.
Probably bad news for the Bopara haters, his non selection probably makes him favourite for the england no.6 spot. Hopefully Stokes bashes some runs and takes some wickets and pips Bopara to the post.

I guess that means we get that ****ing sad sack in the England side for the season after he gets another 3-4 drop century against West Indies.
Looks like Stokes will be getting a lot of bowling in that Lions squad. He should definitely be batting above Fatel.

Not really, I think the England selectors know enough about him and he's probably only behind Finn atm.
