If we get another injury who would (should?) we fly over? I'm really not sure at this point, especially given the young age of most of the attack.

depends on just how close to the test the injury happens. It'd probably be Bird or someome, but they might only have the time to fly someone over from England. But then Magoffin is about the only Aussie bowler I can think of who is there.

Goffers has been in the test squad before. Wouldn't be the worst call-up IMO.

what are people's thoughts on starc being the first back up bowler we have? It seems pretty ridiculous to me. I mean sure is a decent bowler and no doubt has some potential but christ surely we can do better? If Starc wasn't a young bowler (and didn't have the potential facet to him), I'd honestly probably prefer even Johnson over him.

well when we named the squad I said we were a bit light on quicks, and it has come to pass.

But I was really happy how Starc performed across admittedly different forms of cricket, since his debut v NZ, plus he will help Lyono. So overall, not displeased at all Ruckus me boy.

In a test where the second highest number of wickets for a quick in an innings was 2, and in the match was 3, Roach's 5 in each innings looks even more impressive.
Agree there, funny how certain bowlers are feast or famine against teams. Roach has looked ordinary against most opposition (probably wouldn't have been in the side but for Rampaul's injury) yet when the Aussies are at the other end he looks a world beater.

How much cricket has Johnson had after his injury?

Would be a bit much to throw him in without a few games. Not convinced about Starc but he has been around the squad while johnson has been injured.

Long term it is worrying how the Aussie bowlers seem to break down so often. Pattinson in particular. Hope this is a temporary thing and he isn't a crock.

yeah I don't mind him as a OD bowler, but he isn't exactly the greatest test bowler yet. From what I've seen e.g. Bollinger, Butterworth, Bird, McDermott and even Faulkner (plus probably a few others) all look to be much more consistent bowlers than he is (with the latter 3 also of a similar age/potential). Two left armers in there to pick from as well. The only place Starc has looked good so far in tests imo was at the WACA and I really just suspect that is the Johnson syndrome with the breeze etc. He really is a bowler who needs more time in shield cricket to refine his game imo. It's good that he has had some test exposure, but I don't think it should mean he has to be a permanent member of the squad now.

I've got no idea what the status on Johnson is actually, not a fan at all so i haven't been keeping up with the news on him. Ftr i really wouldn't want Johnson back in the team, despite thinking he is actually a better bowler than Starc is currently. He is just a dead end for me, and I really wouldn't like the feeling of him being together with the old attack again. Would be a massive backward step for this team and I really hope when he is properly available the selectors don't feel an obligation to bring him back just because he has experience or he is a 'match-winner' etc. or some other bull****.

And yeh it is a bit of a worry with Pattinson, but I'd hope it's just an age related thing.

Johnson is bowling again. I'd imagine he should be close to getting a game in the IPL for Mumbai now that Malinga is injured.
