Stupid that the 8-2 should be nominated as a greatest match. The use of the word "match" suggests it should at least be a contest. This was just a brutal useless mauling. There was nothing great about it for anyone who wasn't a Man Utd fan/Arsenal hater.

Can understand why the Arsenal 02 team was left off the list though, was basically the same side which won the league in 04, so wouldn't be much point in nominating them twice.

Have a link for where you're getting this mate? Everything I've come-across only mentions the shortlist for the Player of the PL, nothing further.

Yeah I agree, but they're also very memorable.

Liverpool 4 Arsenal 4 would probably be my nomination. United 4 Citeh 3 my personal favourite, though.

Shame they couldn't come up with some better saves to be honest. They're all good, and some really good. But you see saves as good as some of these about 10 times a season. I simply don't believe that there aren't some better contenders out there.

Pfft can't believe your all arguing over this constructed premise, my players are Dixie Dean, Stanley Matthews and Kenny Dalglish:p

I'd say it was between these two to be honest. Not only high scoring, but both were really exciting. The former was also when Arshavin deceived everyone into thinking that he was good though. Seem to remember he touched the ball about 6 times in the entire match.

I suppose too that because it's the Premier League awards it's probably just based on the League, rather than anything else a particular team might have achieved in other competitions.

Yeah I found most of them a bit underwhelming. But then keeping is so much about positioning so it's hard to compare saves the way you would goals. In the end I voted for Schmeichel's first- no matter how many times I watch it I still think it's going to be a goal.

Disagree with you there. There are way too many "goalfests" on the list, but that display by United was incredible, the build-up and goals were magnificent.

That Temuri Ketsbaia was a bit of a nutter wasn't he?

I enjoyed the goals although surely a few lesser names have scored goals at least equal to the 10. The saves weren't that amazing overall.

I went for Le Tissier's first goal, love it.

A few things wrong with the nominations imo, but I was never going to be happy, haha.

Match - Newcastle vs Arsenal, 2010/11
Goal - Cantona 1996/97
Celebration - Gerrard 2008/09
Save - Kuszczak 2005/06 (pains me to give it to him, but I have to)
Team - Schmeichel, Sagna, Carragher, Vidic, Le Saux, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Le Tissier, Giggs, van Nistelrooy, Bergkamp

There were some great goals but was just one of those ridiculous games when all those efforts just go in.

Man Utd have played far games, it was against what was really an Arsenal B team.

Some observations:

How exactly are Man Utd 93/94 not nominated for best team, yet Blackburn 94/95 are? Other than that probably a fairly decent list (assuming as some have said that for instance Man Utd 98/99 means Man Utd 99-01, Arsenal 03/04 means Aresenal 02-04, etc).

No defender or goalkeeper in the best player awards is stupid, personally I'd get rid of Bergkamp, Cantona and Zola and get Schmeichel and a couple of defenders in there. Quite happy with no Gerrard or Lampard though.

Best celebration also seems a silly category and most of the nominations are unremarkable.

With that said I think on the whole the whole thing is fairly decent when you compare it to the nominations and votes you normally get with this sort of thing.

I went:

Match: Liverpool 4 Arsenal 4
Goal: Le Tiss 2nd
Celebration: Cantona by a million miles. Balotelli's Why Always Me? not making the list is a shocker.
Save: Schmeichel's first
Team: Schmeichel, Neville, Terry, Adams, Cole, Ronaldo, Vieira, Keane, Giggs, Henry, Shearer.
