Interesting tactic from Warwickshire, opening with pinch hitter Carter. Sloggers have done well against Philander, so it's a good move.

Warwickshire going at six runs an over but Philander has bowled five overs with an economy rate under two. Dockrell on again, so Warwickshire's innings may now come to a complete standstill.

Compton has really come good for us, been out-doing much higher rated guys, this season and last, shame he's a bit of a late developer, or I'd be pushing for an England call up.

Dibble doing a job for Somerset ATM, being borne in the best city in the world, obviously helping him.
Always quite rated Compton particularly in one day cricket, like you say shame he's developed fairly late in his career, still only 28 mind.

People with depression do smile... I know you know that but some people assume just because someone is smiling and appears happy they are fine..
All too true.

Anyhow a magnificent hand by him in this game. Match winning innings.

Matt Coles anyone? Ton and 9 wickets is a pretty darn decent effort from the boy.

Must confess I can't ever recall seeing him in action. Cricinfo has him down as "RA medium" but he looks like a big, strong, ruddy cheeky man of Kent/Kentish man (not sure which a Maidstone birth qualifies him as) so imagine he's brisker than that.

Yes read a match day report the other day indicating he was a little quicker perhaps than Cricinfo currently have him down as. As you say, it's been a fantastic start to the season for him and impressive for Kent in gerneral, new head coach Jimmy Adams will be pleased with the early indications after having much the better of their opening draw against pre-season favourites Yorkshire. New signings Shreck, Davies, Powell, Harmison and Newman all having an early season impact, and a thumping win against a Northants side, that may admittedly struggle in the CC was just what was required in backing up their opening performance.

The best poised game heading into day four seems to be the one taking place at Edgbaston between Warwickshire and Somerset. Warks have eight wickets left and need a further 136 runs with a batting line-up that historically would suggest they will not be brimming with confidence. Will Porterfield is 57 not out overnight and will be pivotal on the final day. Somerset have Vern Philander in their ranks and a confident George Dockrell trying to spin them home for a second successive game.

With Rikki Clarke coming in at eight and Keith Barker at nine, you would imagine that the depth Warks have should be enough to secure the runs needed, but Somerset will be looking to fire on all cylinders first thing.

Dibble could always bat pretty well as a kid, certainly a bowling allrounder at youth level. I'd hope today is a start to go on and contribute reasonably regularly with the willow.

Attached an interesting scorecard from a Devon district game six years ago...

Looked pretty expensive on that scorecard ? I mean, fancy conceding a run in only six overs.

Last season 87/88/89mph on SKY.

County cricket is so full of 87mph/140kph bowlers, its unreal. Australia too has a plethora who bowl that speed in the Big Bash. It is insane when compared to India. India have just three consistently over 140kph.

Really that's good, must admit I had him down as an older county trundler, but see he's just 21, and can obviously bat and bowl.

As Manee says, there's real pace from some unexpected sources recently, James Anyon for instance, seems to have turned it around.

James Anyon was hugely impressive last season, bowled aggressively with good pace. Many of the bowlers can register around 140kph in games shown on Sky, but they are generally LO games, whether they can maintain these speeds throughout the day in a CC game I'm not so sure. They are capable of cranking it up for a spell or two though.

Anyon is one I do remember from the televised CC game, good pace.
Yes he maintained pretty good pace throughout. Big, strong and aggressive, just picked up a 5-for against champions Lancs, will no doubt benefit from the accuracy of Steve Magoffin bowling at the other end.

It's a pretty decent bowling attack, Sussex with Magoffin, the wrath of Khan, Panesar and Anyon, has pace, accuracy and guile.

Absolutely, is a very decent attack. Throw in Luke Wright as the fifth bowling option and it looks a bit stronger again.
