Graham Carr's job at the Toon seems to be a bit overhyped, all he has done is recommend to buy international proven quality footballers, hasn't he?

Anyone who watches European football or plays computer games, knows all the players he bought well, no unknown names amongst Santon, Ba, Cisse, Ben Afra, Cabaye, Tiote etc. Seen they are now being linked with FC Twente's Douglas, so Carr is also just playing Football Manager a lot as well.

Its working though. Using that as the basis for my application for the England post.

Think the argument is that this lot couldn’t beat Basle at home.
Not sure how a team which reached the Champions League final, were competitive in Europe and didn’t lose to Blackburn at home could be better than a side which has Jonny Evans at the heart of defence and Danny Welbeck “leading” the line.

We only reached the Champions League final last season by avoiding anyone good. Bilbao would have destroyed last year's team even harder than they did this year's.

It's obvious to anyone who watches us regularly that we're much better than we were last year, especially away from home. But people that just look at our team sheet and tot up the players' Fifa 12 ratings will continue to be fooled until Jonny Evans changes his name to "Evandinho" and insists he's a new £20m Brazilian signing.

I can't really see why he'd want to stay but for whatever reason Liverpool are generally pretty good at holding onto their best players. I'd be surprised if he left.

I do get your point but you can pinpoint their downfall from genuine challengers and probably the best first XI in the country (as opposed to squad which is why united bested them in 09 IMO) to losing Alonso, Mascherano and the full back whose name escapes me, in addition to Torres doing the football equivalent of Jason Gillespie's 05 Ashes and Gerrard not being as effective without these players (as well as being unfit).

It's pretty shocking really because for all the 'it's their year'' jokes we all know and love, they were well placed to start being a top side again. Whether you blame the owners at the time, Benitez, those players for wanting to leave, a combination, it really shouldn't have happened. I think one reason Dalglish is being shown patience is because the fans know truthfully that they've pretty much got to start again.

I imagine a few of the clubs who could actually afford him would be put off by his rather colourful behavioural record as well to be honest. He's not a time-bomb like Balotelli, but you get the feeling he'll never be too far from his latest controversy.

The sale of Arbeloa to finance a move for Glen Johnson was one of the most absurd things I've seen. Ikki to disagree...

Arbeloa, name came to me when I saw you had posted. Can't say I agree with Ikki on that one, not that I think Johnson is awful though.

At the time I think Arbeloa was one of the most competent right backs in the league tbh. Seems Liverpool let him go without much of a fight at all.

It does suck when you see our good past players tearing it up at Barcelona, Real Madrid, etc.

No real faith heading into the game against Blackburn, and definitely not in the big Mersey Derby. Can only hope that the imminent meeting with the owners forces Dalglish into actually selecting our best XI.

Just watched the replay of the Hammers match which was so frustrating! 2 absolute dead set penalties not given which in the scheme of things promotion wise has a huge impact.

It really does amaze me how the football powers that be are so dead-set against using video to make a call on decisions. If the game is televised and the technology is there, why not use it!

Nasri reminds me of Alex Hleb a bit. People who get hard-ons over good technique love him but he's pretty ineffective in the final third. I wonder whether Ferguson wanted to turn him into a passing CM or use him as a winger.

Yeah, it's also amazing the amount of Arsenal players that leave and never reach the same heights again. It kinda speaks volumes about the chemistry of the Arsenal team IMO, the fact that so many midfield players have fitted in perfectly at the club and had success, but then faded away when going to arguably stronger clubs.
