Smali kindly sent my list back to me, so I can actually see who I put down.

Ftr I had eight Australians in the top 25, of which two were in the top ten. Six Poms made my list, five West Indians, 2 Pakistanis, 2 Indians, and one each from SL and SA.

And it occurrs to me I glaringly omitted Gilly. Oops.

I had the same ratio, except for one fewer Aussie and one more Kiwi. Otherwise known as Hadlee.

I had 6 each from Australia and West Indies, 5 from England, 3 from India, 1 each from SA, Pak, SL, NZ and Zimbabwe. Quite a few from SA and Pak were on the verge of making it, but missed it just.

Yeah, it gets to the point you're splitting hairs with players of this calibre, doesn't it?

Or just forgetting them

Yeah I know, McGrath isn't among top 7-8 bowlers according to PEWS' formula IIRC...

I had McGrath at no. 13, right after Hammond and right before Barnes.
I had him in exactly the same position, though my two either side of him were different.

Interesting that Flower got some support. Doesn't look like he is making it though. Neither will Sangakkara. Personally, I would have liked these 2 blocks to make it to top 50.

Flower is another who we saw too little of here, which is a real shame. He's also a bloke who took a conscientious stand through his cricket, kind of transcended the sport a bit with that.

I know it's too late but I've compiled a list out of interest now that I finally have some time.

It's post-1900 as it feels to me dishonest and lazy to my personal effort to put in say, Grace who undoubtedly would be No.1, without having a decent grasp of how good other cricketers were at the time. I can't just put Grace at #1 or #2 without considering where to place Lillywhite relative to say, McGrath and the half-dozen or so cricketers who would perhaps deserve to make this list from Grace's era as it would be an injustice to them.

1. Donald Bradman
2. Imran Khan
3. Garry Sobers
4. Richard Hadlee
5. Keith Miller
6. Muttiah Murali
7. Jacques Kallis
8. Bill O’Reilly
9. Jack Hobbs
10. Shane Warne
11. Clarrie Grimmet
12. Shaun Pollock
13. Sachin Tendulkar
14. George Headley
15. Wally Hammond
16. Malcolm Marshall
17. Glenn McGrath
18. Herbie Taylor
19. Aubrey Faulkner
20. Fred Trueman
21. Sunil Gavaskar
22. Sydney Barnes
23. Herbert Sutcliffe
24. Len Hutton
25. Allan Border

Twas very much fun.

I see you are awful keen on All -Rounders. To me unless one could make his respective team based on either of the two disiplines, then you have to rate them based solely on their primary skill. That would leave us just with Sobers, Imran and Miller and in his prime Botham. Additionally Imran became better with the bat mainly later in his career.

Some things that I am sure you have overlooked. Can you please look at the series' below and let me know if Imran has NEVER been good with the ball and bat at the same time?

Pak vs England

The Best I've Watched: Imran Khan v England at Headingley in 1982 | Highlights | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

Pakistan in England Test Series 1982 | Cricket news, live scores, fixtures, features and statistics on ESPN Cricinfo

Topping the bowling and one of the highest in batting (Man of the Series)

Pak vs India

Cricket Records | Records | India in Pakistan Test Series, 1982/83 | Most runs | ESPN Cricinfo

Cricket Records | Records | India in Pakistan Test Series, 1982/83 | Most wickets | ESPN Cricinfo

Again Man of the Series

Pak vs West Indies

The coup that wasn't | Regulars | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

Cricket Records | Records | Pakistan in West Indies Test Series, 1987/88 | Most runs | ESPN Cricinfo

Cricket Records | Records | Pakistan in West Indies Test Series, 1987/88 | Most wickets | ESPN Cricinfo

Again Man of the Series. And all of them are all round performances where he finishes at the top of the bowling charts and very high up in the batting ones.

nopes he isn't, criticize him by all means but criticize fairly at least and make statements with a teeny weeny bit of knowledge about the subject. And absolutist statements like "he NEVER did this or that" don't really help.
